By harnessing research, data insights and the power of our collective expertise, we help the world to better understand the changing influence and impact of water.

As Technical Director, you will drive the expansion of our Port Masterplanning capabilities—developing new service offerings, fostering early engagement with clients, and delivering complex projects that shape the future of maritime infrastructure.

Based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, with a hybrid working arrangement, you will work across divisions, collaborate with global partners, and support and co-ordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions.

Your leadership will play a key role in positioning HR Wallingford as a market leader in port planning and development. Your work will directly contribute to shaping sustainable maritime infrastructure that benefits communities and ecosystems globally. This is a varied and influential role in which you will:

  • Oversee the strategic growth of Port Masterplanning services.
  • Explore and develop new market opportunities globally.
  • Develop tailored service packages in collaboration with internal and external experts.
  • Build and maintain strong client and partner relationships.
  • Oversee and contribute to successful bid preparation and project delivery.
  • Align research and innovation with commercial market needs.
  • Mentor and develop a collaborative and effective team.

About you

We value diverse perspectives and welcome candidates who bring curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to continuous learning.

We’re seeking an experienced leader in Port Masterplanning, maritime consultancy, or infrastructure planning—someone who brings strategic vision and operational excellence to complex projects.

You will demonstrate extensive experience in business development and strategic project delivery, with demonstrated success in enabling growth and innovation. Your stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills will enable you to navigate diverse interests and foster long-term partnerships. You will be an expert in bid strategy, contract negotiation, and team leadership, ensuring commercial success and high-performing teams.
