Project Manager (Equipment, Technology and Innovation)

Wallingford, UK

At HR Wallingford, we design smart, resilient solutions across the natural and built environments to help everyone live and work more sustainably with water. By harnessing research, data insights and the power of our collective expertise, we help the world to better understand the changing influence and impact of water.

As a specialist water-focused consultancy, we build and test scale models to help us explore developments in the coastal and marine environments. Our facilities are some of the largest in the world. To support this work as well as the work of other national and international research and commercial facilities, we develop specialist equipment, software and instrumentation.

Our Equipment, Technology and Innovation (ET&I) group – a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers – is focused on developing and supplying this equipment. Our product portfolio stretches across high-quality wave generation, hydrodynamic instrumentation and data acquisition systems used by universities and marine research facilities worldwide.  We also design and supply remote platforms for survey-related activities on inland waterways.  Innovation and customer focus are the keys to our success.

About the role

Due to our recent growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for Project Manager to join our team and use their project management experience to:

  • Be responsible for the successful delivery of projects on time, to the available budget cost and expected quality;
  • Ensure resources are allocated for assigned projects;
  • Develop budgets, plans, work schedules, and other technical activities, as well as coordinate and monitor these for assigned ET&I projects;
  • Communicate with and translate client needs and organise practical terms into required timelines for the team to meet;
  • Identify potential problems with projects, supporting the team into developing solutions and ensuring implementation to mitigate the risk of delay in delivery or quality;
  • Host frequent meetings with the team and client for program updates to establish any potential issues with delivery/quality & cost that might impact the current project plan;
  • Capture items for improvement and report these to the QSE Manager;
  • Ensure that all legal and legislative requirements are met throughout the project.

About you
