
BIM Design Delivery Operational Lead - Secondment

We are looking for an Interim BIM Operational Lead to provide continuity and day-to-day operational coordination across the BIM Design Delivery function during a maternity leave period.
This is a temporary operational leadership role focused on:
- delivery continuity
- resource coordination
- prioritisation management
- project-facing communication
- escalation handling across BIM Design Delivery activities
The role is intended to support continuity within an established operating model rather than introduce a new management structure.
Due to the nature of the role, strong familiarity with the existing BIM Design Delivery team, delivery landscape, operating model, and stakeholder environment is considered essential. The successful candidate is expected to have intimate knowledge of how the team operates across projects, stakeholders, systems, and technical delivery workflows. The role is expected to make balanced operational decisions across delivery priorities, resource constraints, and stakeholder expectations while maintaining continuity of service.
The role operates with support from the Engineering Director for escalation and backstop purposes where required.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Operational Coordination
- Act as the primary operational point of contact for incoming BIM Design Delivery activities
- Coordinate intake and prioritisation of work across the BIM Design Delivery team
- Support resource allocation and balancing of delivery demand across projects
- Maintain visibility of delivery risks, blockers, dependencies, and escalation points
- Manage day-to-day delivery pressures and support trade-off discussions where required
- Ensure continuity of technical delivery support across active programmes
- Support project-facing communication and coordination activities
- Escalate significant delivery, resourcing, or operational concerns where appropriate
Team Coordination & Light Operational Oversight
- Support day-to-day coordination of the BIM Design Delivery team
- Provide basic operational oversight relating to:
- team availability
- holidays
- workload coordination
- wellbeing awareness
- Act as the first-line escalation point for operational and delivery-related matters
- Maintain lightweight visibility of ongoing concerns, risks, and emerging issues
- Support continuity and stability across the team during the interim period
This role is not intended to provide full Engineering Manager coverage and does not include ownership of:
- formal performance management
- salary or promotion decisions
- long-term development planning
- full people management responsibilities
Technical & Delivery Environment
- Support coordination between design and spatial coordination activities
- Maintain awareness of BIM Design Delivery standards, technical workflows, and project interfaces
- Support consistency and continuity of delivery outputs across projects
- Coordinate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, including but not limited to Design, Deployment, Simulation, Operational teams, Partner Success, Proposition Design and Project Engineering
Essential Experience & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the BIM Design Delivery operating environment
- Existing familiarity with the BIM Design Delivery team structure, stakeholders, and delivery model
- Practical experience coordinating technical delivery activities within complex project environments
- Strong understanding of delivery prioritisation, workload balancing, and operational coordination
- Ability to identify and escalate risks, blockers, and delivery concerns appropriately
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate calmly within changing delivery priorities
Highly Desirable
- Existing experience working within the current BIM Design Delivery team or closely aligned functions
- Familiarity with Ocado delivery processes, design governance, and project lifecycle expectations
- Understanding of Autodesk / Revit / ACC-based delivery workflows
- Experience coordinating across multiple stakeholders and technical disciplines
