Senior Manager, SEC Reporting
Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. To date we have worked with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting over 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In a world often dominated by e-commerce giants, we stand out as one of the few platforms uniquely committed to helping local businesses succeed on a performance basis.
Groupon is on a radical journey to transform our business with relentless pursuit of results. Even with thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we still maintain a culture that inspires innovation, rewards risk-taking and celebrates success. The impact here can be immediate due to our scale and the speed of our transformation. We're a "best of both worlds" kind of company. We're big enough to have the resources and scale, but small enough that a single person has a surprising amount of autonomy and can make a meaningful impact.
As the Senior Manager, SEC Reporting, you will own the Company’s external financial reporting process, serving as the subject matter expert for all public filings. You will lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of SEC reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements, partnering cross-functionally to ensure accuracy and integrity. This is a high-visibility role with regular exposure to senior leadership.
As we undergo a company-wide transformation, we’re looking for a Sr. Manager of SEC Reporting who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and make an impact.
You’ll spend your time on the following:
- Assist in the tie-out and review of financial data in earnings releases, investor presentations, and public correspondence, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all external communications.
- Lead, manage, and have core ownership for the preparation, review, and timely filing of all external financial reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy statements, and other filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- Partner with Corporate Accounting’s technical accounting function to evaluate complex accounting matters and impacts of new FASB and SEC reporting requirements. This includes drafting and/or reviewing comprehensive white papers for material transactions and US GAAP accounting policies.
- Serve as a primary point of contact and coordinate with the external auditors on all matters related to SEC filings and complex accounting issues, managing the timing and delivery of all audit requests for the SEC reporting function.
- Collaborate closely with Investor Relations and Legal to assist in the tie-out and review of financial data in earnings releases, investor presentations and public correspondence, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all external communications.
- Evaluate and innovate existing SEC reporting processes and technology solutions and implement enhancements and improvements for owned workstreams. Serve as a subject matter expert in supporting broader cross-functional transformation and automation projects as they relate to SEC reporting.
- Design, maintain, and continuously enhance the internal controls (ICFR) over the external financial reporting processes, working with the Internal Audit department in providing SOX documentation.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the SEC Reporting manager, providing coaching, goal-setting, and performance feedback to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation, distribution, collection, and in-depth analysis of information received in the quarterly reporting packages.
- Perform comprehensive financial reporting research, benchmarking U.S GAAP and SEC guidance against peer company disclosures to drive best-in-class reporting quality.
We’re excited about you if you have:
- Big 4 and public company experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to lead complex reporting cycles with disciplined project management
- Manager-level experience implementing new accounting standards and regulatory requirements, including ownership of disclosures, processes, and controls
- Proficiency with Workiva SEC Reporting and Google Workspace
- Comfort adopting AI-assisted and automated workflows
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy in a regulated, high-stakes environment
- Demonstrated leadership ability and comfort working both independently and cross-functionally
- Adaptability and effectiveness in a fast-paced, evolving environment with competing priorities
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA required
- Strong command of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
- 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience with deep, hands-on SEC reporting ownership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for financial disclosures and senior-level interactions with auditors, regulators, and executives
Why You’ll Love Working Here:
- High-impact role with direct access to top leadership and the board
- Opportunity to shape the future of a global public company
- Entrepreneurial environment where your contributions are seen and valued
- Culture that celebrates curiosity, ownership, and results
