Commercial Systems Engineer
About Flipdish
At Flipdish, we're turning the tables in favour of independent restaurant and takeaway owners by offering them powerful, simple-to-use tech solutions backed by real human support. Everything we do is designed to make running a restaurant satisfyingly simple in a world that's anything but.
About the role
You'll join the Commercial team as a Commercial Systems Engineer, working across high-impact areas of our product - Google Business Profiles (GBP), Flipdish Managed Marketing, and other initiatives that drive growth, partnerships, and platform expansion.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and analytics. Your primary focus will be building and shipping tools that directly drive revenue and operational efficiency for the Commercial org. You'll work closely with Commercial, Product, Engineering, Sales, Onboarding, and Partnerships to identify problems, ship solutions, and measure whether they actually moved the needle.
Success in this role is not "code shipped" - it's tools built, deployed, and adopted by real users, tied to real commercial outcomes.
What you'll own
- Design, build, deploy, and maintain tools that support Commercial products, operations and growth initiatives.
- Build internal tools and automation that let Sales, Onboarding, Partnerships, and Marketing scale without scaling headcount.
- Use AI tooling fluently (Claude Code, Cursor, Vercel, LLM APIs) to ship faster and unlock capabilities that wouldn't otherwise be feasible.
- Deploy and maintain services on AWS - own the path from local to production, including monitoring and incident response.
- Build dashboards and instrumentation - partner with our internal teams to track adoption and tie your work to commercial outcomes.
- Take end-to-end ownership of problems - scoping, shipping, iteration, and decommissioning what isn't earning its keep.
- Challenge poor decisions and propose better ways of working. Constructive challenge is a responsibility - prioritizing harmony over truth or progress is a failure of responsibility.
What success looks like
- Tools you ship get used. Adoption rate and active users are the bar, not deployment count.
- Every shipped tool ties to a measurable commercial outcome (revenue, retention, efficiency hours saved, conversion uplift).
- Cycle time from problem to deployed solution is meaningfully shorter than it would be without AI-fluent engineering.
- Commercial partners report reduced operational friction quarter on quarter as your tools land.
- The internal shipping bar rises -fewer dead tools, more reused infrastructure, more compounding value.
About you
You'll thrive in this role if you:
- Have 4+ years of software engineering experience, ideally within a MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) in production.
- Have shipped and deployed real products on AWS. You're comfortable with the path from local to prod and can hold your own when something breaks.
- Are fluent in AI-assisted engineering: Claude Code, Cursor, Vercel, LLM APIs.
- Can point to products you've built that real users actually used. Adoption numbers matter more than project counts. We want to hear about the thousand users, not the twenty side projects.
- Connect engineering work to commercial outcomes. If you can't explain why a feature mattered to the business in plain language, this isn't the role for you.
- Communicate clearly with non-engineers - Sales, Commercial, Partnerships. You can translate between business and engineering without losing either side.
- Take high ownership. You don't wait to be told what to do.
The following would help you stand out
- Experience working with martech / adtech APIs (Google Business Profiles, Google Ads, Meta)
- Experience building AI agents, RAG systems, or AI-native workflows
- Experience with serverless / edge deployments (AWS Lambda, Vercel Functions, Cloudflare Workers)

Our culture
At Flipdish, we're on the side of independent restaurant and takeaway owners, running busy operations on tight margins with rising costs, staffing challenges, and an increasingly demanding customer base. Our job is to make their lives easier with technology that's powerful, satisfyingly simple, and backed by real human support.
Our integrated ecosystem, spanning online ordering, marketing, loyalty, point of sale, menu optimisation, and operational automation, helps restaurants grow while staying in control. We're an AI-first company, and we use it to help our customers get better outcomes -faster ordering, smarter marketing, and smoother operations -so owners and teams can spend more time on what matters.
Inside the company, we value ownership and clarity, with a friendly, people-led culture behind it. We trust our people to help shape what kind of employer Flipdish is, not just follow a script. Transparency is huge for us: we listen to each other, collaborate, and create the space for people to grow (with balance, not burnout). We care about diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing as standard, and we encourage flexibility where it works. We're focused on impact and team energy, not "being seen". You'll have meaningful scope, work closely with smart people across teams, and be trusted to make things better as Flipdish scales.
