Medicines Management Technician (MMT)
We are looking for a driven and knowledgeable Medicines Management Technician (MMT) to join our forward-thinking NHS primary care team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a registered technician ready to step outside their comfort zone and contribute meaningfully to safe, efficient, and evidence-based prescribing. The MMT will play a vital role in medicines reconciliation, high-risk medication monitoring, repeat prescription management, QOF support, and clinical governance across NHS services. You'll work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team—including GPs, pharmacists, nurses, and ICB colleagues—to optimise patient care and prescribing practice.

Please note: This is a full-time, hybrid position - requirement is to attend the Euston, London office up to 2 days per month, depending on business needs. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
- Medicines Reconciliation and Optimisation
- Medicines Management Enhanced Service: Implement the Medicines Management Enhanced Service Specification and promote cost-effective prescribing practices.
- Prescription Management: Oversee repeat prescription and electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) requests to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Service Design and Improvement: Contribute to the design and setup of new services aimed at improving medicines reconciliation and prescribing processes. Focus on improving medicines safety and optimising patient outcomes.
- Policy Development and Training: Write and update policies related to prescribing and the prescription process. Make recommendations and provide training/support on new policies and services to ensure continuous improvements in medicines safety and efficiency.
- Collaboration with Clinicians: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians across the organisation, including pharmacists, GPs, and nurses, to promote safe, cost-effective prescribing.
- Data Analysis: Extract, analyse, and interpret prescribing data, as well as incident reports, to ensure prescribing practices are safe and cost-effective.
- Responding to Queries: Address queries from the Head Office Clinical team, remote clinicians, patients and the Support team in a timely manner.
- Monitoring MHRA Alerts: Actively monitor and respond to appropriate MHRA alerts affecting the service.
- High-Risk Prescribing Areas: Monitor and manage high-risk prescribing, including controlled drugs, antibiotics, and high-risk medicines, ensuring appropriate action is taken to minimise risks.
- Service Improvement and KPIs: Demonstrate the success of interventions and service improvements using KPIs.
- Collaboration with ICB Pharmacists: Routinely liaise with ICB pharmacists and technicians to ensure key Quality Indicators are met and maintain a high standard of service delivery.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- GPHC Registered Medicines Management Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Experience using SystmOne is preferred but not essential—strong IT skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new digital systems are required.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact with a range of healthcare professionals.
- IT literate, with the ability to use digital tools and databases effectively.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and expanding the scope of practice.
- Ability to work autonomously while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Self-motivated with strong organisational skills.
- A collaborative team player who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
- Experience in a primary care setting.
- Experience working in a GP practice or within an ICB role.
- Experience in setting up new services and improving existing ones.
- Familiarity with data analysis and interpretation from EPACT (e.g., prescribing patterns, cost-effectiveness).
- CPPE pathway enrolment or relevant CPD in medicines management.
- Experience working within Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
