Staff Digital Analyst - CoE

Digital Analytics CoE Digital Analyst Job Description

The purpose of Digital Analytics at Decathlon is to provide strategic insights that drive business decisions and optimize results. Digital Analysts are embedded within central and Country teams, providing the necessary understanding of the performance of the online business in Decathlon. These Digital Analysts translate Digital Data into Insights, using these to provide recommendations to their business teammates to take appropriate decisions, driving improvements in business performance.

The Digital Analytics Centre of Expertise supports this work. It manages the Digital Analytics foundational work that is common across Decathlon (e.g. data collection, data quality, documentation, training programmes) as well as determining and supporting all Digital Analysts in best practices around the use of Digital Analytics. This team is also the owner of people related matters such as Digital Analyst job ladders and the internal evangelist of Digital Analytics to the rest of Decathlon.

The team is looking to fill a variety of roles. Each role has a different focus but team members are also expected to support any and all of the work of the Digital Analytics CoE as necessary. These focus areas include:

  • Digital Analytics training: creating training materials, in both written and recorded formats, from shorter “How To” guides through to an entire Decathlon Digital Analytics certification course (tailored to different roles).
  • Digital Analytics data collection: supporting the roll out of Amplitude to Decathlon websites and apps outside of e-commerce. This will include the planning and management of the roll out, management of documentation, configuration of TMS and of Amplitude.
  • Amplitude Ownership: creating and managing the processes for Amplitude at scale across Decathlon, ensuring consistency and that everything is kept up to date. These processes will include tool onboarding and offboarding, documentation on the set-up of Amplitude and customisations within it, the addition of new websites/apps to Amplitude, managing access to Amplitude, etc.
  • Digital Analyst Support: providing Digital Analytics services for teams and countries that do not have a dedicated Digital Analyst embedded in their teams.
  • Digital Analyst Consultant: providing expert Digital Analytics support for key projects and initiatives as an internal consultant.

You will be required to be a Digital Analytics generalist but with a specialism or aptitude in a particular area. You will need to understand website and app visitor behavior, how to identify and interpret it. You will be a translator, able to simplify and explain data to the end consumers, working with key business team mates to bring this context and knowledge to bigger teams.

But, while Digital Analysts in the rest of Decathlon will be focused on providing their teammates in country or domain team with analysis, insights and recommendations, you will need to be able to support all teams, whatever the domain in which they work. As such, you will need to be able to adapt quickly to new areas, different business models and different requirements from Digital Analytics.

Depending on your role, you will have that focus on a particular Digital Analytics area, like Data Collection or Education. If so, you will be supporting all Decathlon with this specialist area, developing the foundational work on which everyone else will rely.

If you are interested in problem solving, have the curiosity to identify unusual behaviors and events, and the ability to tell stories to explain customer journeys, then this job is for you. You will have a global scope, working in synergy with Digital Analysts across our central teams and in countries, while supporting the build of a state-of-the-art Digital Analytics organisation for the biggest worldwide sport ecosystem.

As a Decathlon CoE Digital Analyst, you will be expected to have:

Specific Skills/Experience

  • At least 8 years' experience in Digital Analytics working with tools such as GA3/4, Piano Analytics, Amplitude and Adobe Analytics
  • Understanding of how website/app tracking works including the creation of tracking plans, ideally with experience in writing tagging instructions and in configuring tag management solutions
  • Ability to define actual business questions (needs rather than wants) and having the approaches/techniques to answer these questions
  • Have knowledge and experience with analysis skills & techniques to develop advanced analysis and understand the journey of online and offline customers. Analysis can be performed within Digital Analytics tools or spreadsheets with analysis skills based on SQL, Python, R - bonus
  • Design of dashboards that are simple for non data practitioners to understand but equally powerful for them to get the insights they need with experience in using at least one of Tableau, PowerBI, Looker Studio, Qlik
  • Ability to explain Digital Analytics concepts to others and train them in what they need to know, especially in the right approach to understanding people’s behaviour on a website or app
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders, either client side or as a consultant, explaining the data in ways they can understand, making recommendations and influencing their decisions
  • Comfortable working with incomplete data -  identifying when and how this data can, or cannot, be used confidently in decision making
