As our very first VP of Engineering, you will be the most senior technical leader at bunch. You will be fully responsible for overseeing our engineering team and all IT systems. Your role will be will be key in defining and executing our technical strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and innovation in our product development.

This role has a clear path to a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) position based on performance, strategic impact, and leadership within the organisation.

What you will be doing

  • Technical Leadership & Strategy: Define and execute the engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with our business goals, product vision, and strategy.

  • Team Management & Growth: Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • System Architecture & Scalability: Oversee the development and maintenance of a robust, scalable, and secure technology infrastructure that supports bunch’s growth.

  • Product Development & Delivery: Partner closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of high-quality features and system enhancements.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the VP of Product, forming a strong partnership to align technology and product roadmaps, balance technical feasibility with business needs, and drive innovation.

  • IT & Security Oversight: Establish and enforce best practices for cybersecurity, data privacy, and compliance with relevant financial and regulatory standards.

  • Process & Efficiency: Implement engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines to optimise development workflows.

  • Technology Stack & Innovation: Make key architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, leverage and use AI, and drive innovation to maintain a competitive edge.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a bridge between engineering and business functions, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the engineering budget, ensuring cost-effective investments in technology and talent.

  • Innovation & Industry Leadership: Stay ahead of fintech trends and emerging technologies, especially using and leveraging AI to ensure that our products remain at the cutting edge. Representing bunch at industry events, panels, and discussions with investors.

  • Regulatory & Compliance Strategy: Given our fintech focus, work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure that all systems and products meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.

What you bring with you

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Director, VP, or CTO level) in a high-growth fintech, SaaS, ideally in fintech or financial services environment.

  • Experience or familiarity with the financial regulations, KYC/B, AML, compliance, data security requirements, and operational challenges in the fintech space is a plus.

  • Strong technical background in cloud-based architectures, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.

  • Experience managing full-stack engineering teams, including backend, frontend, DevOps, low-code, and security.

  • Proven track record of delivering scalable, reliable, and compliant financial technology solutions.

  • Expertise in modern software development practices, agile methodologies, and DevOps.

  • Exceptional leadership and strategic thinking skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Our business language is English.

Node.js, React.js, Sequelize, Mysql, Okta, Docker, AWS.We strive to keep our technology stack as simple and efficient as possible.

  • Frontend & Backend: TypeScript on both the frontend (Svelte) and the backend (Node.js with Nest.js)

  • Database: MySQL

  • Infrastructure: Kubernetes (K8S) on top of AWS

  • Source Control & CI/CD: GitHub

  • Third-Party Applications:

    • FusionAuth for authentication

    • Retool for low-code internal frontend solutions

    • Twilio and SendGrid for sending SMS and emails

    • Tally for creating custom forms

  • Tech Strategy Interview with several tech team members to go more in depth into your strategic thinking

  • Final meeting with our Founders to further learn about our ways of working and team culture.
