Legal Counsel
CAFU is looking for a highly motivated Legal Counsel with a strong corporate/commercial experience to join its incredible Legal team to provide counsel and support the General Counsel on a broad range of CAFU group’s day-to-day legal requirements that range from advising on regulatory/compliance to providing support on corporate/commercial matters within the Gulf Region, Middle East and North Africa, North America, East Asia and Europe.
As a Legal Counsel, you will report to the General Counsel and are expected to promote a high quality and fast paced legal function whilst aligning with CAFU’s vision, culture and strategy. This role requires extensive knowledge and experience gained in an inhouse legal environment within the energy and technology industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice to the business teams on various transactional corporate, commercial or regulatory matters;
- Assist the General Counsel and support the business in the preparation, review and negotiation of a variety of agreements as services/consultancy agreements, MOUs, partnership agreements, supply/distribution agreements, and to support throughout the life of a contract;
- Assist the General Counsel in managing the group’s employee share incentive plan and its administration as maybe advised by the General Counsel;
- Liaise with relevant departments and other necessary parties, including customers, suppliers, or consultants to ensure legal queries are resolved within deadlines, or escalated to the General Counsel;
- Work with the team to develop or update and roll out new template agreements, policies and legal procedures and help ensure all legal processes and procedures are being followed and adhered to;
- Prepare memos and notes with reliable and commercially focused legal advice to the business in relation to technology, energy, ESG projects;
- Manage the external counsel roaster and oversee work performed by such counsels;
- Provide general legal advice and support, including research, legislative updates and assistance with compliance matters;
- Manage the IP portfolio of the group (Trademarks, Patents etc.)
- Prepare for and provide trainings training to the various business teams on legal regulatory and compliance matters as required;
- Manage the trade licenses renewals along with the legal coordinator;
- Coordinate with external counsels and public authorities;
- Draft notices of defaults and liaise with law firms for civil cases matters.
- Provide legal support on group projects within the tech and petroleum divisions of the business while analysing legal issues; and any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements:
- At least 5 PQE and preferably qualified from a common law jurisdiction - UK, Australia or US. A civil law jurisdiction qualification may also be considered for this role.
- Previous in-house legal experience gained preferably in a regional or multinational company.
- Business acumen with an ability to provide sound risk and legal analysis and reasoning to the various business teams within CAFU.
- Exception verbal and written communication.
- Proactive with a willingness to take initiative and responsibilities whilst complying with deadlines
- Hands on project management and exceptional organisation skills
- Ability to build effective relationships across relevant stakeholders
- Fluency in English is essential, Arabic and French are highly a plus.
