Technician - Fuel System

JOB PURPOSE - WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The Fuel Technician assists in the maintenance, repair, and installation of fuel system components in CAFU depots and trucks under the supervision of senior technicians. The role involves practical work in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to ensure smooth operation of fueling and depot equipment in compliance with CAFU’s safety and quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

1. Depot Fuel System Maintenance

· Inspect, maintain, and repair depot fuel systems including pumps, valves, filters, meters, and pipelines.

· Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic leak testing on tanks and pipelines.

· Clean and service fuel filters, strainers, and suction lines at defined intervals.

· Support installation and commissioning of depot systems such as STPs, MOVs, and flow meters.

· Perform alignment, fitting, and calibration assistance for depot components.

2. Truck Fuel System Maintenance

· Carry out mechanical maintenance and repair on truck-mounted fuel systems.

· Replace or repair valves, gaskets, hose reels, flow meters, and flexible hoses.

· Support pump mounting, alignment, and mechanical fitment activities.

· Conduct leak tests after repair or modification.

· Maintain records of maintenance, inspection, and testing activities.

3. Pipeline and Fitting Work

· Assemble and install fuel pipelines using proper flanges, gaskets, couplings, and sealing materials.

· Identify and rectify leak points in mechanical joints and valves.

· Perform pressure and pneumatic testing as per approved procedures. · Maintain pipeline integrity and cleanliness to avoid contamination.

4. Fabrication and Fitment

· Carry out minor fabrication and modification works for fuel truck and depot systems.

· Support welding, cutting, and drilling as required for system integration.

· Ensure fabricated components meet dimensional and safety standards.

5. Safety, Compliance, and Documentation

· Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures.

· Handle fuels, hydraulic oils, and compressed air systems safely.

· Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance and test reports.

· Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED - WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

· Good knowledge of fuel system components and depot/truck fueling operations.

· Familiarity with piping, fittings, valves, and mechanical assemblies.

· Hands-on experience with leak testing, maintenance, and equipment fitment.

· Basic understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

· Proficiency with hand tools, gauges, torque wrenches, and test instruments.

· Basic awareness of standards such as NFPA 30, NFPA 385, and ADR.

 

JOB PREREQUISITES (EDUCATION, PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE ETC)

· Vocational qualifications in related field (Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical).

· 4+ years of experience in fuel system or industrial mechanical maintenance (Fuel depot and/or tanker

operations).

· Experience in maintenance of fuel pumps, valves, filters, and flow meters preferred.

· Exposure to hydraulic and pneumatic testing procedures desirable
