What is this role about?
As the Senior Lawyer, Recovery, you’ll drive the development and execution of Bondora’s legal recovery function. Your focus will be on setting direction, shaping how cases are handled, and ensuring our approach supports both legal robustness and business goals. The role combines strategic process improvement with hands-on involvement in complex cases and proceedings. Together with teams across the business, you’ll help unlock better outcomes and stronger recovery performance.
Your main responsibilities:
- Lead and represent Bondora in pre-litigation and court proceedings across civil, bankruptcy, criminal, and inheritance cases.
- Own and oversee all legal recovery routes, ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with company objectives.
- Continuously improve legal recovery processes by boosting efficiency, simplifying workflows, and using automation where possible.
- Provide legal insight on complex or novel cases, assessing risks and shaping arguments to support Bondora’s position.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments, adapting strategies as needed and sharing key insights to support informed business and operational decisions.
- Collaborate with teams such as Debt Recovery, Risk, Operations, and Product to resolve bottlenecks and improve recovery performance.
What would ensure success in this role?
- Master’s degree in Law and qualification to practice and represent cases before Estonian courts.
- Solid experience representing cases in Estonian courts and managing hearings independently.
- Strong knowledge of Estonian civil procedure, debt recovery, enforcement, and bankruptcy law in a consumer credit context.
- Confidence working with the Estonian e-File (E-toimik) system for filings, submissions, and case tracking.
- Excellent legal drafting skills for clear, precise claims, responses, and motions.
- Good understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements, including consumer credit rules and GDPR.
- Experience designing and implementing legal or civil-claims processes, not just following them.
- Language skills: Fluent in Estonian and proficient in English; Russian is a plus.
