Senior Legal Counsel (m/f/d)
About Blockbrain
For mid-sized companies, knowledge is the last real competitive lever. Yet knowledge gets stuck in tools and SharePoint folders — or disappears when experts leave. While IT is still planning, employees are already using ChatGPT and the like — without governance, and sensitive data is leaking out.
With the Knowledge Bots platform, Blockbrain creates what companies truly need: AI-powered knowledge management that is quick to implement, flexibly scales, and operates in a compliant manner. Teams use our GenAI building blocks to build tailored AI assistants, agents, and workflows in minutes — just like Lego.
- Series A funded with strong growth momentum (10x product usage & 5x revenue in 2025)
- Enterprise clients such as Roland Berger, Bosch, Eberspächer and Harting from industries including manufacturing, finance, and legal — sectors with the highest security requirement
- ISO 27001 certified, EU AI Act ready. Made in Germany.
Why this role, why now
As we scale into more enterprise accounts in regulated industries, legal and compliance move from a supporting function to a real business enabler. Contracts get more complex, security and data requirements get stricter, and the regulatory landscape around AI is being written right now.
This is a rare opportunity to own the legal foundation of one of Germany's fastest growing AI startups from the inside. You will not sit in an ivory tower reviewing documents in isolation. You work directly with our Managing Directors, shape how we contract, sell, and stay compliant, and turn legal from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage. Real ownership and room to build from day one.
What we expect
-
7+ years of experience as a fully qualified lawyer (Volljurist or comparable qualification), in a law firm, tech company, or in-house legal team
-
Deep expertise in corporate, commercial, and contract law, with the confidence to negotiate enterprise deals directly with customers and vendors
-
Solid working knowledge of GDPR and genuine interest in the emerging AI regulation landscape, including the EU AI Act
-
A good grounding in German labor law and the pragmatism to support People & Culture on employment matters
-
A hands-on, business-minded approach: you find solutions that enable deals rather than block them, and you know when good enough is good enough
-
Clear, direct communication that makes complex legal topics understandable for non-lawyers
-
German at native level and fluent English, both written and spoken
Expected AI Skills
-
Use AI tools in your daily work to speed up research, draft and review contracts, and structure complex legal documents
-
Real curiosity to work with our own platform, understand how AI-driven legal workflows work in practice, and apply them to your day-to-day
We don't expect AI expertise, but the openness to use AI as a daily co-pilot.
Your responsibilities
-
Own the full legal playbook: from customer and vendor contracts to procurement, you decide how we contract and where we push back
-
Make our biggest enterprise deals happen by sitting close to the commercial team and turning legal into a reason customers say yes, not a reason they wait
-
Shape how Blockbrain navigates AI regulation, driving EU AI Act and GDPR topics together with our Information Security and Compliance Lead
-
Be the go-to partner our Managing Directors turn to when a decision needs legal clarity, fast and without jargon
-
Steer our external legal advisor and Data Protection Officer as real partners, not just vendors
-
Own labor law matters and back People & Culture as we grow the team across our locations
-
Build the templates, playbooks, and processes that keep us fast and clean while we scale, so legal never becomes the bottleneck
