Your Role:
Reporting to the Chief Actuary, this newly created position will play a critical role within the actuarial function and wider business. The role involves transforming Apollo's rating tools from the current Excel/SQL setup to a modular approach within a leading London market pricing platform, Hyperexponential (Hx).
The Head will lead a small technical team, coordinating pricing oversight and strategy across the wider function encouraging collaboration within the Pricing function, regularly meeting with senior team members to share observations, concerns, and best practices.
What You’ll Do:
Oversee Hx Implementation and Maintenance:
- Oversee Hx implementation (stage 1) and ongoing maintenance and development (stage 2).
Governance and Reporting:
- Govern pricing policies, procedures, and Lloyd’s Principles.
- Coordinate pricing reporting, including Principles assessments, Pricing Group MI, and broader business Pricing MI.
- Support governance activities, monitor adherence to standards, and identify training needs.
- Coordinate and guide syndicate actuaries according to Lloyd’s Pricing Maturity Matrix.
Pricing Strategy and Collaboration:
- Shape and define group pricing strategy to optimize the pricing function's contribution.
- Ensure alignment and collaboration with divisional heads of pricing.
- Provide peer review for 1969 and 1971 pricing functions.
- Collaborate with Exposure Management, Data Solutions, and IT on shared projects.
Data and Module Management:
- Manage data integrity and competition considerations.
- Design, develop, and maintain generic modules for multiple rating tools.
- Migrate current pricing models to the new platform using common modules.
- Ensure adherence to architecture, standards, and development processes.
- Provide quality assurance for common module implementation.
- Maintain and update common modules to meet stakeholder needs.
Centre of Excellence and Training:
- Function as a centre of excellence for modelling capability, providing training and direct support to syndicate pricing actuaries and underwriters.
- Mentor and develop junior team members.
What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a new team within the Pricing function in a revised structure designed to create enhanced career opportunity and progression. We are seeking candidates with the follow experience and skill set:
Experienced Pricing Actuary with comprehensive understanding of London Market Pricing Methodologies:
- Experience in pricing various classes of business within the London Market.
- Proficient in applying advanced actuarial techniques and models to develop accurate pricing strategies.
- Knowledgeable about regulatory requirements and industry standards specific to the London Market.
Experience in Developing Models in Hx Renew and Solid Coding Experience Using Python:
- Skilled in creating and enhancing pricing models using Hx Renew, with a strong grasp of its data model.
- Proficient in Python programming, capable of developing robust and efficient code for actuarial applications.
- Ability to integrate Python scripts with Hx Renew to automate and streamline pricing processes.
Ability to Translate Conceptual Ideas into Practical Solutions:
- Strong analytical skills to convert theoretical concepts into workable models and strategies.
- Ability to identify practical applications for complex actuarial theories and methodologies.
- Skilled in developing solutions that are both innovative and feasible within the business context.
Collaborative Approach and Growth Mindset:
- Strong collaborator, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across contrasting functions and levels.
- Open to feedback and willing to adapt and improve based on constructive criticism.
