YouTrain builds a military XR training platform for armed forces, law enforcement, and emergency responders. Our products – DronAR, TrainAR, BrothAR, ShootAR, DrivAR, and MissionAR – combine immersive environments with real equipment, enabling scalable training for drone operations, tactical shooting, emergency driving, and mission planning. The Role

As Platform Lead / System Architect you own the architecture of the YouTrain platform: CMS/LMS, learning analytics, instructor portal, mission-planning services, APIs, and device management. You design a system that runs reliably and securely as a cloud solution as well as on-premise and in offline/edge environments at military customers – and you technically lead the platform engineers.

What You'll Do

• Design, document, and continuously evolve the target architecture of the training platform.
• Make architecture decisions for cloud, on-premise, and offline/edge deployments (incl. synchronization and update strategies).
• Shape the security architecture: identity & access management, tenant isolation, audit logging, hardening.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring for backend/platform engineers; code and design reviews.
• Design and standardize interfaces to XR clients, analytics, and device management (MDM).
• Establish operations concepts, scalability, observability, and SLOs together with the team.

About You

• 8+ years of backend/platform engineering experience, including several years as an architect or tech lead.
• Deep experience with Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code in production environments.
• Proven experience designing distributed systems (APIs, event streaming, data management, multi-tenancy).
• Solid security understanding (OAuth/OIDC, RBAC/ABAC, secrets management, zero-trust principles).
• Experience with on-premise or restricted-connectivity environments (offline/air-gapped) strongly preferred.
• Very good English; German a plus. EU/NATO citizenship required due to our customer environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in defence/government or with certifications (e.g., BSI baseline protection).
• Experience with learning platforms (LMS), analytics pipelines, or MDM solutions.
• Experience with Unity/game backends or multiplayer infrastructure.
