About YLD

Our goal is to help our clients keep moving forward. We work with them to build the skills and capabilities they need to stay ahead of the competition, and we know our success only happens when they succeed. We're a team of curious, talented people, and we're committed to making YLD a place where great people want to work, grow, and stay.

We're a remote-first consultancy specialising in software engineering, product design, and data. Our teams are based across London, Lisbon, and Porto, and we create digital solutions that continue to deliver value long after our work is done.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer at YLD, you'll join a client team building and evolving digital products for a high-traffic, experience-led organisation. We're looking for someone curious, driven, and enthusiastic — skilled at problem-solving and experienced in delivering clean, maintainable PHP on modern CMS platforms.

You'll work closely with the client's in-house engineering team on a mix of ongoing Craft CMS feature work and a larger migration from a legacy CMS, with UI/UX rework in scope. The team is collaborative and values direct partnerships over black-box agency arrangements — which is exactly the kind of engagement YLD runs.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will look like this

  • Building and maintaining features on a production Craft CMS platform, with consistent commits and a short feedback loop;
  • Contributing to the migration of a legacy CMS onto Craft, including UI/UX rework, targeting mid-2026 launch;
  • Working closely with client engineers and a product designer, collaborating on engineering initiatives and keeping each other sharp;
  • Mentoring teammates and sharing knowledge across the team to accelerate growth;
  • Participating in regular show and tells, promoting your work to the wider team;
  • Maintaining production quality and monitoring in line with SLAs;
  • Using good judgement about where emerging tools (including AI) genuinely improve the work.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong PHP development skills, with production experience on Craft CMS;
  • Solid understanding of the Craft CMS templating system, plugin ecosystem, and content modelling;
  • Experience migrating content from legacy CMS platforms: familiarity with Epic Server or similar is a plus;
  • Frontend competence: working with designers to implement UI/UX rework, including responsive design and accessibility;
  • Database design and query optimisation (relational databases; SQL Server experience useful);
  • API development (REST), with an understanding of how CMS platforms expose and consume data;
  • CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git) in a team environment;
  • Comfortable with cloud-hosted environments and standard deployment tooling;
  • Monitoring and performance awareness: you keep an eye on things in production;
  • You stay calm when debugging live issues and communicate clearly about what's happening.

You should apply if you are

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and always looking for ways to improve;
  • A clear communicator, you can explain technical decisions in plain language to non-technical stakeholders;
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of delivery;
  • Comfortable working across a small, collaborative team that includes both YLD and client engineers;
  • Experienced working in agile, iterative environments with real production stakes;
  • A genuine believer in diversity and fairness.

Our typical recruitment process

  • 1st interview with someone from the Talent team (30–45 mins)
  • Technical interview with our Senior Developers (1h30)
  • Call with Client Partner (30 mins)

We live and breathe our values, and know you will too

  • Growing every day
  • Including everyone
  • Relationships built on honesty and ethics
  • Inspiring solutions
  • Winning together

We're an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity in all its forms. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, age, marital status, or disability. We offer a remote-first working environment, with flexible working and work–life balance as standard.
