About The Role
The Middle Jira Automation Engineer plays a key role in delivering independent Jira automation solutions, handling moderate-level scripting, and resolving automation issues. This role requires a deep understanding of Jira internals, ScriptRunner Groovy development, and cross-system integrations. You will lead complex technical initiatives, optimize system performance, mentor mid-level engineers, and ensure the automation framework remains robust, reusable, and compliant with security and governance standards.

Responsibilities
- Build and optimize workflows using ScriptRunner and other plugins
- Create scripted fields, validators, and automation-driven post-functions
- Troubleshoot automation issues independently
- Create Structures and maintain complex reporting deliverables
- Manage Assets schemas and configure field-level dependencies
- Support Junior Engineers via mentoring and code reviews
Required Skills & Experience
- Jira administration, automation, and scripting experience of 2 years or more
- Deep understanding of Jira configurations (workflows, screens, permissions, notifications, custom fields)
- Managing Advanced Roadmaps
- Working with Assets/Insight schema design and data linking
- Writing Groovy scripts for ScriptRunner: Listeners, post-functions, validators, and scheduled jobs
- Consuming the Jira REST API within scripts
- Proficient Git usage: commits, pushes, branching, resolving conflicts
- Jira logging, debugging, and testing automation scripts locally
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for Jira automation deployment
- Familiarity with ScriptRunner, Structure and Advanced Roadmaps
- Experience integrating Jira with BambooHR, Tempo, Vaultwarden, or similar systems
- Knowledge of Atlassian ecosystem APIs and plugin development
- Experience designing monitoring dashboards for automation metrics using Grafana or Kibana
- Understanding of data security, GDPR, and enterprise compliance frameworks
