ABOUT US

Wunderflats helps people find fully furnished homes for a month or more, perfect for relocations, family moves, or life transitions. It offers a secure and seamless rental experience across Europe.
Founded in Berlin in 2015 by Jan Hase and Arkadi Jampolski, Wunderflats bridges the gap between verified landlords and carefully vetted tenants. As part of Europe’s housing infrastructure, it helps activate underutilized apartments and support the evolving ways people live and work today.

More than 63,000 apartments are currently listed, and the company employs a team of over 150 people.

The numbers behind Wunderflats: GMV in the three-digit millions, revenue in the solid double-digit millions, and a clear ambition to grow revenue into the three-digit millions. We want to become the leading European provider of temporary housing and challenge market leaders who have held the field for thirty years: through geographic expansion, product expansion, and M&A. We're financing this ourselves, through profitable, lean growth: we have a strong investor base, are operationally self-funded, and additional funding is an option, not a necessity. This independence is a deliberate choice. Finance sits at its center.

The Role

As Director Finance, you'll lead Finance at Wunderflats end-to-end: accounting, controlling, liquidity, tax, and financial reporting. You'll take over an experienced four-person team that reliably runs day-to-day operations, and elevate the function to the next level. You'll report directly to the Managing Director responsible for Finance and hold a seat on the Leadership Team.

The core of the role is steering. We run the company through dynamic steering based on Dynamic Budgeting principles: ambitious relative targets, honest rolling forecasts, and resources allocated where they have the most impact. You'll own this system and make it clear enough that everyone steers by it, from the Board down to individual operational staff.

Financial deal-making (fundraising, M&A execution) currently sits with the founder-CFO. This boundary isn't fixed forever: as you grow into the role, it can shift.

Your First 12 Months, honestly

The hard part of this job isn't glamorous, and we're saying that upfront. The foundation for scaling has to be built cross-functionally from Finance: receivables cleaned up and permanently free of overdue balances, no manual special treatment for major accounts, processes that run automatically instead of via tickets. If you're looking for a large team and a polished machine, this is the wrong role. If you want to build the machine, keep reading. After 12 months, together we will have achieved:

  • The company is on a profitable growth path toward three-digit-million revenue.
  • Financial steering is clear to everyone, from the Board down to individual operational staff, and decisions follow it.
  • Employee incentives are financially aligned with company goals.
  • Reporting and receivables management run 80% more automated compared to today.

AI-Native, With Proof

Wunderflats is becoming an AI-native company, and today that already means something concrete: everyone in the company has access to most of our data via MCP, anyone can automate their own work with Claude, and we're building cross-functional AI mission teams that are autonomously empowered and challenged to transform the company. Finance is a core part of this transition, and you'll drive it for the function.

What You'll Own

  • Monthly and annual financial statements under HGB, serving as the counterpart to auditors during the annual audit, notes and management report.
  • Receivables management and payment processes: automated, exception-free, scalable.
  • Tax and compliance domestically and in our European markets abroad, working with external advisors.
  • Controlling and steering: P&L by business unit, a 12-month rolling forecast based on Dynamic Budgeting principles and, tied to it, a rolling 12-month cash forecast, plus the management reporting that leadership actually steers by.
  • Quarterly Business Reviews: together with our Controller, you'll prepare and run the QBRs for all leadership, the forum where goals, forecasts, and resource decisions come together.
  • Investor and Board reporting for a strong investor base; financial groundwork for expansion and M&A decisions.
  • Finance systems: architecture and further development of our ERP, Microsoft Business Central (with an implementation partner), as well as the payment infrastructure around our payment gateway Stripe; automation and AI adoption across all finance processes.
  • Leadership and development of the Finance team (four people).

What You Need to Bring

  • Deep HGB knowledge and audit experience on the company side.
  • Many years of hands-on experience with modern finance ERP systems (NetSuite, Business Central, or comparable). Business Central itself isn't a requirement; understanding how ERPs work is: data model, closing process, integrations, reporting layer.
  • Proven controlling work: forecasts, unit P&Ls, management reporting that has actually changed real decisions.
  • Leadership standing: you've led a team and hold your own with founders, auditors, and investors.

Fluent German and English are required; German carries audits, tax, and communication with authorities. A background as a Bilanzbuchhalter or tax advisor (StB), SQL or Python, and AI experience in finance are each a plus, not a requirement.

What We Offer

  • A seat on the Leadership Team with real influence on company direction.
  • A mandate to modernize: systems, automation, AI-native finance, backed by both founders.
  • An experienced, stable team and an orderly handover from the current role holder.
  • Office-first culture at Hackescher Markt in Berlin, with remote options.

*We at Wunderflats value the diversity of our team and stand for equal opportunity and non-discrimination. We respect all differences from person to person, visible or not.
