Senior Systems Engineer - Building Secure & Highly-Available IoT Infrastructure

Are you Com4’s new System Engineer?

Com4 operates autonomously, managing our own customers, services, and technical platforms. Our success is built on a security-first mindset, a relentless focus on uptime, and deep IoT/M2M expertise.

As a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), Com4 operates its own core network within our Private Cloud and Norwegian data centers. Through global roaming agreements, we provide 2G-5G connectivity worldwide. We are currently evolving our technology stack to bridge the gap between robust classical system engineering and modern Cloud/5G opportunities. This is a role for someone who appreciates the reliability of well-configured metal and VMs, but has the vision to automate and containerize where it adds value.

The Expertise We’re Looking For
To strengthen our team, we seek an experienced Senior Systems Engineer who has a solid foundation in Linux and a "can-do" attitude toward new technologies. If you have experience in several of the following—or a strong desire to master them—we want to hear from you:

  • The Linux Core: Solid knowledge of Linux administration (Ubuntu, RedHat, or CentOS)
  • Infrastructure & Virtualization: Experience with data center technologies (servers and storage) and virtual environments like VMware (primarily), Proxmox, or OpenStack.
  • Application & Network Ops: Managing Bind, Apache, Nginx, and knowledge of various internet protocols (like DNS/DNSSEC, SNMP, SMTP, gNMI).
  • Observability: Operating and scaling monitoring/logging stacks (like Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch or ELK).
  • Automation: Driving efficiency through Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Security & Identity: Interest or experience in Audit Logging and Identity Management tools like RedHat IdM or Keycloak. Familiarity with protocols such as Kerberos, LDAP, and OIDC is a plus.
  • Scripting: Competency in Bash, Python, or Perl for task automation.
  • Modern Workloads: Experience with Kubernetes for cloud-native microservices.

Your Role & The Team
You will be enjoying great autonomy, as our leading Senior Systems Engineer, but you will still be part of a dedicated technical team spanning IP, IT, Dev, and Mobile Core. You will also collaborate with our international colleagues in the Wireless Logic Group and our external vendors for various platforms and managed services, leaders in their domains.

Your work will include:

  • Maintaining IoT Infrastructure: Managing the lifecycle of virtual environments, Linux servers, and storage solutions—ensuring maximum uptime while keeping security at the forefront.
  • Evolutionary Architecture: Designing capacity expansions and platform migrations, introducing new technologies when they are production-ready.
  • End-to-End Automation: Streamlining VM delivery, service chaining, CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hybrid Operations: Cover both classical system engineering and container environments.

Who You Are:

  • You are comfortable with "full-spectrum" engineering—you can design a K8s cluster one day and swap a failed drive in a physical rack the next.
  • You prioritize uptime and security, understanding that continuous availability is the baseline for everything we build in IoT and Telco.
  • You are proactive—if you see a manual process causing bottlenecks, you think: "How can I automate this?"
  • You enjoy the DevOps philosophy but appreciate the critical importance of the underlying systems that make the code run.
