SENIOR NETWORK & SECURITY ENGINEER

Position Overview

The Senior Network & Security Engineer is a senior technical role within the Viadex Delivery team, responsible for the day-to-day operation, support, and continuous improvement of network and security environments across our customer base.

 

This role is primarily focused on managed service delivery, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and maintenance of customer environments, alongside implementation of new solutions and enhancements.

 

At a high level, the role encompasses:

  • Implementation and maintenance of network and security solutions
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution
  • Technical escalation and problem management
  • Ongoing optimisation of customer environments

 

You will also contribute to low-level design and service improvements, ensuring solutions remain aligned to customer needs and evolving technologies. The role requires strong technical capability alongside the ability to engage with customers on operational matters, escalations, and service improvements.

 

Based in Cape Town and reporting to the Service Desk Manager, this role requires a collaborative and proactive team member. Infrequent international travel may be required.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a senior technical escalation point for network and security-related incidents
  • Monitor and support customer environments, ensuring service availability and performance
  • Perform incident response, root cause analysis, and problem resolution
  • Implement and maintain network and security solutions across customer environments
  • Contribute to low-level design (LLD) and technical documentation
  • Support change management processes, including planning and execution
  • Provide technical input into solution designs where required
  • Participate in customer discussions relating to service performance, incidents, and improvements
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer environments and configurations
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
  • Ensure delivery meets agreed SLAs and quality standards
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Stay up to date with relevant technologies and best practices

 

Experience/ Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CCNA, Fortinet, Azure) or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to complete certifications aligned to partner requirements
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and infrastructure interdependencies
  • Public cloud experience (Azure preferred)
  • Clean criminal record (for international travel)
  • Driving licence

 

Required Skills & Experience

Core requirements

  • Strong experience in a network and security support role within an MSP or VAR environment
  • Proven experience supporting on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with ownership of issues through to resolution
  • Experience working within incident, problem, and change management processes
  • Ability to act as a senior technical escalation point
  • Excellent communication skills with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently while remaining aligned to team and service delivery objectives

 

Technical experience (essential)

  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise networking (routing, switching, VPNs, WAN)
  • Experience supporting network security platforms (e.g. Fortinet, Cisco, or equivalent)
  • Experience troubleshooting hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud)
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Azure (IaaS, networking, backup and DR concepts)
  • Experience with identity and access controls (e.g. MFA, Azure AD)
  • Strong understanding of network and security best practices

 

Technical experience (desirable)

  • Experience with SD-WAN or SASE platforms (e.g. Cato or similar)
  • Exposure to advanced AWS and Azure networking, including Direct Connect / ExpressRoute
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Exposure to server and storage infrastructure in support scenarios
  • Familiarity with multi-vendor environments and third-party support models
  • Experience with, or a strong desire to develop skills in broader infrastructure technologies such as virtualisation (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V), server management, and storage platforms
