About the Role

As a Commercial Pre-Sales Systems Engineer at Veeam, you will serve as a trusted technical and strategic advisor to enterprise customers navigating some of their most critical technology decisions. You will engage with a wide range of stakeholders — including C-level executives, senior IT leadership, enterprise architects, engineers, and IT practitioners — helping them design resilient, secure, and future-ready data platforms that support real business outcomes.

This role is built for a technologist who thrives on complexity, curiosity, and impact. You will operate at the intersection of technology strategy, architecture, and real-world operations — engaging deeply in technical design while also influencing executive conversations around data resilience, cyber recovery, risk reduction, and modernization. Your ability to connect technical depth with business relevance is what earns trust and drives meaningful change.

You will help customers modernize across on-premises, hybrid, multi-cloud, and SaaS environments, ensuring data resilience, security, and governance are foundational to everything they build.

Location Requirement: Within Territory (Minnesota or Iowa). Preference is local to the Alpharetta, GA office.

Travel: Up to 20% within assigned territory

What You’ll Do

  • Lead complex pre-sales engagements, including discovery, architecture design, solution positioning, and technical validation.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to IT practitioners, engineers, architects, and senior leaders by translating business objectives into secure, resilient, and scalable architectures.
  • Deliver compelling technical demonstrations and executive-level presentations that clearly articulate business value, cyber risk reduction, and operational outcomes.
  • Design and manage proof-of-concepts (POCs) to technical closure, aligned to customer success criteria and operational realities.
  • Collaborate with customers and partners to define architectural strategies supporting data resilience, ransomware recovery, compliance, and hybrid-cloud adoption.
  • Create tailored proposals and contribute to enterprise-scale RFP and RFx responses.
  • Maintain strong awareness of industry trends, emerging threats, and competitive positioning to effectively represent Veeam in enterprise discussions.
  • Partner closely with sales, product management, engineering, and ecosystem partners to influence solution architecture and product direction.

Technologies You’ll Work With

Hybrid Cloud, Multi-Cloud & SaaS Platforms, Virtualization Technologies, Enterprise Storage Systems, Cyber Resilience & Data Protection Technologies

What You’ll Bring

  • 3–5+ years of experience in pre-sales systems engineering, solutions architecture, or related technical customer-facing roles, supporting mid-market to enterprise customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively own technical execution for assigned sales opportunities, driving progress across discovery, solution design, technical validation, and proof-of-concept (POC) activities.
  • Proven experience managing multiple concurrent technical engagements, balancing depth of technical involvement with responsiveness, prioritization, and consistent deal momentum.
  • Strong foundational technical background across enterprise infrastructure domains, including data resilience, compute and virtualization platforms, cloud services, networking, and security, with the ability to apply this knowledge to customer challenges and business objectives.
  • Ability to identify technical risks, gaps, and dependencies early, and work collaboratively with sales and internal teams to address them and keep opportunities moving forward.
  • Working knowledge of data security, privacy, governance, and regulatory considerations that influence enterprise IT and data protection strategies.
  • Foundational understanding of AI, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs), with the ability to explain how trusted, resilient, and well-governed data enables modern analytics and AI initiatives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead customer-facing technical discussions, presentations, demonstrations, and workshops for IT practitioners, architects, and management-level audiences.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, exercising sound judgment within established frameworks while consulting appropriately on higher-impact or ambiguous decisions.
  • Collaborative and proactive mindset, with experience partnering closely with sales and cross-functional teams to advance opportunities, improve processes, and support consistent execution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to team development, including mentoring junior colleagues through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and leading by example.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with public cloud and SaaS platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform, including exposure to hybrid and multi-cloud architectures.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, including basic administration, troubleshooting, and performance considerations in enterprise environments.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and network security principles as they relate to availability, data protection, and recovery.
  • Hands-on exposure to enterprise infrastructure technologies, including virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV), enterprise storage systems, identity and access management solutions, and Kubernetes or container-based platforms used in modern application environments.
  • Experience supporting proof-of-concept (POC) activities, technical validations, or customer workshops as part of complex, multi-stakeholder sales engagements.
  • Familiarity with data protection, cyber resilience, or enterprise infrastructure solutions through pre-sales, implementation, or operational experience.
  • Awareness of observability, monitoring, and operational tooling used to support system resilience, recovery, and operational readiness.
  • Relevant technical or industry certifications (cloud, security, infrastructure, or architecture), or active pursuit of certification.

Bonus Skills

  • Containerized and cloud-native application platforms, including exposure to Kubernetes environments and basic considerations for data protection, backup, and recovery of containerized workloads.
  • SaaS application data resilience, such as Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and other enterprise SaaS platforms, including understanding shared responsibility models and common recovery use cases.
  • API-driven automation and scripting, including familiarity with REST APIs, basic scripting (e.g., PowerShell or Python), or infrastructure-as-code concepts used to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Cyber recovery and resilience concepts, including isolated recovery environments, clean-room architectures, ransomware recovery workflows, and validation of restored data.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
