Senior People & Culture Specialist

Las Vegas, Nevada, United States

Ever imagined saying, “I helped launch the future of transportation”?

We’re rewriting the rules of urban mobility. At Vay, customers tap a button and a car arrives - with no one inside - powered by our world-first Remote Driving technology on real public streets.

We’re live in Las Vegas and scaling fast, powered by a strategic investment of up to $410 million from Grab. Our mission is simple: replace private car ownership with a faster, cleaner, door-to-door mobility model. If you want to build something real, visible, and genuinely transformative, you’ll feel right at home here.

What’s happening at Vay

  • First to roll out vehicles in both Europe and the USA on public roads without a human being inside & currently the 2nd largest commercial, driverless car fleet in the Western World.
  • We've partnered with Kodiak to bring remote-driving technology to autonomous trucks in the US, showcasing our ability to integrate our system into heavy-duty commercial vehicles and expand the applications of our tech across the US.
  • We’ve completed 10’s of thousands of trips so far and are busy multiplying our Las Vegas fleet just to meet demand!
  • ...And soon we’ll be expanding across the US & Europe 🚀

Why this role is exciting

Senior People & Culture Specialist

This is not a traditional HR role. You’ll be at the center of building and scaling our U.S. People function, working across everything from compliance and employee relations to benefits, payroll, and culture. You’ll partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Legal, and our EU People team, giving you real exposure across the full HR spectrum in a high-growth environment.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership, and sees every challenge as an opportunity to build something better. You’ll have the backing of an experienced global team, but the autonomy to shape how HR operates and evolves in the U.S.

What you’ll be driving

You’ll take ownership of our U.S. HR operations, ensuring we’re compliant, scalable, and building a strong employee experience as we grow.

  • Own and evolve HR policies, ensuring full compliance with U.S. and Nevada labor laws
  • Lead policy development across benefits, sick leave, overtime, compensation, and employee relations
  • Act as the go-to HR partner for employees, driving onboarding, offboarding, and engagement initiatives
  • Manage payroll processes via Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and handling employee queries confidently
  • Maintain and optimize HR systems (Personio & Paylocity) as reliable sources of truth
  • Oversee benefits programs, vendor relationships, and introduce new perks that genuinely add value
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Engineering, Operations, and Comms to embed culture and values
  • Analyze HR data and provide insights on engagement, performance, and retention

What are we looking for

We need someone hands-on, pragmatic, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving startup environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in high-growth or startup environments
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law, with a solid understanding of Nevada regulations
  • Proven experience handling employee relations issues and workplace investigations
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a dynamic environment
  • High emotional intelligence, clear communication, and a collaborative, solutions-driven mindset
  • Experience working across international teams and contributing to inclusive, high-performing cultures

DEI @ Vay

We are aware that diversity has many different dimensions but to start, we will be tracking gender and ethnicity, as it is measurable and concrete. To that end, we have started to ask all Vay applicants to anonymously share diversity information. To remove our own bias, this data is held completely separate from the application and will be held in the highest confidence.

At Vay, we consider our work on diversity, equity, and inclusion to be an ongoing effort, and we welcome suggestions and comments. If you are happy to help us with our targets we would really appreciate you self-identifying below.
