Vehicle Technician (Remote Driving technology)

Berlin, Germany

Ever imagined saying, “I helped launch the future of transportation”?

We’re rewriting the rules of urban mobility. At Vay, customers tap a button and a car arrives - with no one inside - powered by our world-first Remote Driving technology on real public streets.

We’re live in Las Vegas and scaling fast, powered by a strategic investment of up to $410 million from Grab. Our mission is simple: replace private car ownership with a faster, cleaner, door-to-door mobility model. If you want to build something real, visible, and genuinely transformative, you’ll feel right at home here.

What’s happening at Vay

  • First to roll out vehicles in both Europe and the USA on public roads without a human being inside & currently the 2nd largest commercial, driverless car fleet in the Western World.
  • We've partnered with Kodiak to bring remote-driving technology to autonomous trucks in the US, showcasing our ability to integrate our system into heavy-duty commercial vehicles and expand the applications of our tech across the US.
  • We’ve completed 10’s of thousands of trips so far and are busy multiplying our Las Vegas fleet just to meet demand!
  • ...And soon we’ll be expanding across the US & Europe 🚀

Why this role is exciting

Vehicle Technician

In this role, you’ll be right at the heart of bringing Vay’s technology to life in the real world. You’ll work hands-on with our remotely-operated vehicles and telestations, helping build, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot the hardware that powers our engineering and fleet operations in Berlin.

This is not a standard technician role. You’ll be working across pre-series builds, prototype integrations, maintenance, diagnostics, and workshop operations—partnering closely with engineering, fleet, production, and quality teams to make sure our systems are reliable, scalable, and ready for the road.

What you'll be driving

You’ll play a key role in building and maintaining the physical backbone of Vay’s remote driving platform, supporting both engineering development and fleet readiness in a fast-moving environment.

  • Build, integrate, configure, and commission Remotely-Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and telestations for engineering, testing, and fleet operations.
  • Perform hardware integration, system bring-up, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and functional validation of vehicle and telestation systems.
  • Execute maintenance, repairs, retrofits, and upgrades across Vay’s engineering and commercial fleets.
  • Support pre-series builds and prototype programs, including installation and validation of new hardware components and system revisions.
  • Investigate and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and system-level issues efficiently in both workshop and field environments.
  • Document build configurations, repair actions, deviations, and test results in internal systems, while contributing to stronger technical documentation and repeatable processes.
  • Support workshop operations including tooling readiness, spare parts management, safety compliance, and housekeeping standards.
  • Collaborate closely with production engineering, quality, fleet operations, and R&D teams to improve manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and overall system robustness.

What are we looking for

We’re looking for a hands-on, dependable technician who knows how to solve problems properly, not patch over them. You should be comfortable working across vehicle systems, embedded hardware, and workshop processes, with the mindset to jump in, figure things out, and keep standards high.

  • 2-5 years of experience as a vehicle technician, ideally in a fast-paced automotive, prototype, fleet, or engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in vehicle build, integration, and maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting across complex vehicle systems, including HV systems and hybrid drivetrains, CAN/LIN, HVAC, cooling, chassis, and suspension.
  • Confidence working with embedded modules, sensor stacks, and advanced vehicle or autonomous system hardware.
  • Ability to operate comfortably within and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
  • Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair or a related field.
  • ASE certification and/or manufacturer certification is a plus.
  • Reliable, proactive, and hands-on, with a roll-up-the-sleeves attitude and willingness to support overtime, holidays, or shifting fleet needs when required.
