Why this role is awesome:

As Senior Quality Engineer, Fleet Operations, you'll play a hands-on and high-impact role ensuring the safety, reliability, and quality of Vay’s cutting-edge fleet of remotely operated vehicles and remote driving stations in Las Vegas. This isn’t a behind-the-scenes quality role, you’ll be on the frontline solving complex, cross-functional issues and directly influencing how our technology performs in the real world. You’ll be empowered to own quality outcomes end-to-end, bridging the gap between operations and engineering, and playing a key part in scaling a first-of-its-kind commercial remote driving service.

What you'll be driving:

  • Fleet Readiness: Own the vehicle and station release process, ensuring each asset meets rigorous quality and safety standards after maintenance or bring-up.

  • Root Cause Investigations: Lead detailed investigations into cross-functional hardware/software issues with onsite operations and global engineering teams.

  • Corrective Action Implementation: Develop, test, and institutionalize robust corrective and preventive action plans to eliminate recurring issues.

  • Process Ownership: Establish and continuously improve quality control checkpoints (QCPs), vehicle release workflows, and technician procedures.

  • Documentation: Create work instructions, troubleshooting guides, service bulletins, and quality alerts to support field operations.

  • Fleet Reliability Metrics: Monitor and act on quality KPIs (e.g., issue recurrence, First Time Yield, vehicle downtime) to drive data-informed improvements.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering, procurement, and integration teams to improve product quality, serviceability, and overall fleet performance.

  • Lessons Learned Integration: Ensure field findings are formally captured and fed back into product design, service practices, and technician training.

What are we looking for:

  • Mindset:

    • Radical Ownership: You own the outcome, drive solutions, and follow through, no matter what.

    • Detail-Oriented & Process-Driven: You see the small details that make big differences in quality.

    • Problem-Solving Obsessed: You dig deep until root causes are found and solved for good.

    • Resilient & Fast-Moving: You push forward through ambiguity and challenges with tenacity.

    • Collaborative & Focused: You know how to work under pressure with other top performers.

    Technical Skills:

    • Root Cause Mastery: Proven experience in diagnosing complex electronic and mechanical system issues.

    • Data-Driven: Proficient with tools like JMP, Minitab, JIRA, and AI-based analysis tools to drive insight and decisions.

    • Engineering Depth: Strong mechanical or electrical engineering fundamentals to tackle both hardware and software problems.

    • Modern Quality Tools: Experienced with FMEAs, Control Plans, and other quality engineering methodologies.

    • Hardware Experience: Background in high-tech systems like EVs, AVs, robotics, or aerospace is a major plus.

    Qualifications:

    • 7+ years of experience in automotive quality, service engineering, or manufacturing roles.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or similar technical field (preferred).
