Role Specification
Role Responsibilities
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in logistics, e-commerce fulfilment, and food processing defining standard and consistent processes for each process category.
- Complete capital engineering feasibility studies, and process modelling within global operations domain.
- Complete and maintain initial and detailed equipment designs for process categories.
- Create Engineering Standards that complement the Equipment design and can be utilised for project feasibility and execution phases of projects to improve speed of execution.
- Formulate project design that can be used and issued to suppliers for initial budget, final pricing and order placement.
- Participate in cross-functional reviews for major capital projects (£1M+).
Key Activities
- Lead Feasibilities Studies for major Capex investments for Capacity, Innovation, Quality and Cost Improvement, and introduction of novel technologies across global operations.
- Create standard engineering project designs and Capex estimates for major capital initiatives working together with regional and local leads.
- Define and agree standard processes to ensure all major capital projects (£1M+) are designed to maximise operating income and efficiency- including the formulation of: standard designs, cost estimation and timelines.
- Develop equipment standards and designs to enable group procurement to obtain standard pricing structures for particular/preferred suppliers and equipment.
- Develop & deploy standardised processes and equipment for capex projects across the group and champion the process in relation to specific projects to ensure compliance.
- Benchmarking of common equipment or processes across the group to understand key advantages of each the various installation and standardise where these bring a competitive advantage.
- Identify and evaluate best available technologies and processes - sharing them across the group.
- Provide technical support to project engineers as requested during equipment build- acceptance testing and commissioning.
- Participate in Post Project Implementation Reviews to understand areas for improvement and revision versus the established standards and approach.
Core Skills
- Demonstrable skills obtained through logistics, e-commerce, and food processing technology projects and working in a high speed consumer oriented environment.
- Experienced engineering projects manager with a minimum of 6-8 years’ experience leading multi-functional and multi-national projects across production.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechatronic, Mechanical, Electrical, Production or Industrial Engineering.
- Demonstrable knowledge in their discipline in defining processes and establishing engineering standard for the use in engineering projects.
- External relationships with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Engineering service organisations.
- Experienced engineer with a thorough knowledge of proven and advanced technology and with the ability to apply that knowledge practically to ensure objective decision making in a timely manner that will provide competitive and innovative advantage.
- Experience of working with WCM (World Class Manufacturing) LEAN or similar structured continuous improvement methodologies.
- Highly numerate and financially aware to allow project financial analysis to be completed in conjunction with financial analysts
- Good knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain, Fulfilment Pipeline and overall End to End Business.
- Demonstrable organising- influencing and planning skills.
- Oral and written communications including presentation to management forums and able to create concise and effective reports and written business cases for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Computer literate including knowledge of web-based systems and comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows suite.
- Ability to support the identification of engineering solutions which maintain or increase competitive advantage and support long term manufacturing strategy.
- Able to use experience and judgement to appropriately identify and effectively manage risks and develop contingency plans to resolve.
