Product Designer - B2B Impact/Ads

Indonesia - Remote

Who we are

We are an organisation that exists to drive progress. That's the “red thread” that connects everyone at The Economist Group (TEG). Our businesses share a devotion to innovation, independence and rigour in their fields of expertise. We empower people to understand and tackle the critical challenges and changes facing the world. Our analytical rigour, global expertise and evidence-based insights enable individuals and organisations to make sense of these shifts and chart a course through them.

We deliver analysis and insights in many formats to subscribers and clients in 170 countries through our four businesses, The Economist, Economist Impact, Economist Intelligence and Economist Education, which uphold our global reputation for excellence and integrity.

With a growing global subscriber base and a reputation for insightful analysis and opinion on every aspect of world events, The Economist is one of the most widely recognised and well-read current affairs publications and the foundation of our digital consumer product portfolio. We are developing a world-class product and design organisation and have an exciting opportunity for a Product Designer to help us design exceptional web and mobile app experiences that drive subscriber engagement.

The role

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our Customer Engagement product area; with a focus on helping us improve engagement and retention. You’ll be part of teams that are re-imagining how subscribers consume our content and creating engaging experiences they keep coming back to. You’ll do this by working with teams across our newsletter offerings, audio and video experiences, advertising integration and B2B specific features.

You’ll work in cross-functional teams with Engineers and Product Managers, taking ownership of design decisions with support from a Design Manager. You’ll produce end-to-end user experiences and create design deliverables ready for engineering. Your work will uphold The Economist brand digitally, maintaining our high bar of visual quality whilst ensuring technical constraints are considered to create intuitive user flows.

You’ll be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience designing digital experiences for app and web. You’ll be able to demonstrate experience sketching, prototyping and moving through different levels of fidelity quickly. From user research to wireframes and user flows through to testing and validation—you’ll develop into a designer that can work end-to-end.

You’ll also be part of a friendly, supportive design team that’s keen to improve how we work and help each other grow.

Responsibilities

  • With the support of your team, you will work with key partners across the business (from product, editorial, marketing, data and commercial teams) to design and optimise experiences to drive both user satisfaction and business outcomes.
  • Be involved in carrying out user research alongside your team to understand user behaviour and identify needs.
  • Articulate key insights and translate them into testable artefacts like sketches, user flows or interactive prototypes that utilise The Economist brand to test assumptions and ideas.
  • Define user flows and journeys, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams.
  • Create production ready design assets and work with engineers to ensure a high quality experience is shipped.
  • Actively participate in workshops and/or design sprints that bring stakeholders and others along the product development journey.
  • Regularly share work with your team and designers that communicate progress and design rationale.

Who you are

  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates your design process and core craft skills including interaction and visual design across mobile and web.
  • Some experience iterating or launching products by working collaboratively with engineers, product managers and other designers in an agile way.
  • An understanding of technologies used to build world-class mobile product experiences. You have experience in agile working and sprints, will be hands-on with user-acceptance testing (UAT) and have a familiarity with the fundamentals of accessibility and usability.
  • Familiarity with prototyping and design tools like Miro, Protopie or Figma and can prioritise choosing the right tool at the right time. Experience in AI enabled prototyping tools would be a plus.
  • Clear communicator either verbally and through text and have strong English language skills.
  • You seek opportunities to learn and grow your hard and soft skills through feedback and self reflection.

If you think you are qualified for this role but don’t necessarily tick every box, please submit an application. The ‘perfect candidate’ doesn’t exist.
