The role
We are seeking a Senior Programme Editor for The Economist Group's Custom Events business to lead the development and delivery of bespoke events across APAC. We are particularly interested in experience developing programmes for tech, innovation and sustainability events.
Reporting into the Head of Programming Globally (based in London), the role will be based in APAC (Singapore or Hong Kong) and responsible for developing original event programmes and ensuring the high-quality delivery of client-focused content.
Responsibilities
Programming:
- Lead programme development for assigned digital events and in-person conferences. Research event themes; develop speaker lists and manage speaker invitation campaigns; brief speakers and moderators prior to events; and, manage on-site delivery of events and any post-event deliverables
- Oversee the APAC portfolios, aligned with business focus areas
- Conduct ongoing research into strategic area(s) to develop Economist Impact’s value proposition in this space, identify new opportunities and capture growth potential
- Contribute to key account growth through excellent execution and strategic forward-thinking, and work closely with the commercial team to develop new ideas for content and formats
- Responsible for owning the validation and development of event programmes to run alongside regional industry events
- Work with The Economist’s editorial team to ensure that programme themes and topics meet the high-quality standards of the brand
- Establish and develop high-level contacts and relationships with governments and influential industry bodies and players in key markets in the region and around the world
- Ensure that assigned projects are hitting milestones and are delivered to deadline and on budget
Cross-functional support:
- Sales: develop thought starters and ideas for event proposals. Manage sponsor relationships on events and projects throughout the year as it relates to your projects programming and content
- Marketing: complete marketing brief at outset of project. Conduct market research into key themes and competitive events
- Operations: manage speaker co-ordination and logistical arrangements
People Management:
- Manage one direct report (Programming Assistant)
- Act as a mentor to junior team members to provide ideas, guidance and support as needed
Who you are
- Experience as a programme editor or conference producer
- Significant experience in event programme creation, editorial or a related field
- People management experience
- Strong primary and secondary research skills which translate into ability to deliver compelling event programmes
- Exceptional organisation and time-management skills
- Proven experience managing content creators, with the ability to mentor, nurture and develop young talent
- Strong commercial acumen and confident client management skills
- A calm temperament and positive attitude
- The ability to juggle multiple projects successfully and meet deadlines
