As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps businesses and organisations prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over 200 countries.

The Country Analysis division of the EIU is looking to recruit a Senior Analyst, Asia to help lead our analytical coverage and forecasting of the region. We are looking for an intellectual leader who can generate insightful, market-leading content for our clients. They will be expected to promote and present our views to improve the EIU’s visibility among current and perspective clients, address media outlets and participate in client facing events, and address internal group meetings. The Senior Analyst will report to the Regional Director, Asia.

How you will contribute

  • Be an intellectual leader within the Asia Country Analysis team, providing leading analysis and insight on major markets
  • Show a strong sense of editorial judgment and ensure required quality standards for EIU products and services are met at all times.
  • Promote and share our work on this topic within The Economist Group and externally, and liaise directly with external clients and media organisations on behalf of The EIU.
  • Provide briefing engagements to clients when required.
  • Contribute to the commercial success of the Country Analysis business via a focus on value-creation for clients.
  • Provide strategic insight and input to help develop the EIU’s products and services.
  • Work collaboratively with other senior EIU staff members to support new business development and implement divisional strategy.
  • Support with training and onboarding strategies to enhance skills across the team.
  • Work with both analysts and research analysts to mentor and support them, and help them develop their macroeconomic and forecasting skills.

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • Relevant experience in either economic, political or risk analysis and strong interest in such issues.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the politics and economics of Asia as well as the regional/global context in which they are situated.
  • A good understanding of macroeconomic data and forecasting techniques.
  • Exceptional writing skills and an ability to produce content in a concise and client-friendly manner.
  • Strong oral communication skills and an ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas and insights with staff, senior management and external clients.
  • Experience in team management and/or demonstrable team or project leadership.
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure consistent high-quality products and services.
  • A Master’s degree and/or MBA.
