Financial Controller

Copenhagen, Denmark

We are seeking a Financial Controller to own the integrity of Tekla’s financial reporting across the group. The role combines technical control work, balance sheet reconciliations, consolidation and eliminations, with ownership of a growing set of tax and trade compliance obligations spanning packaging tax, EU and global VAT and customs duties.

The Financial Controller is responsible both for meeting these obligations accurately and on time, and for building the processes, controls and automation that make them repeatable as the business scales. The role sits within an AI-first function focused on operational excellence, so we are looking for someone with a strong digital mindset and a proactive approach to using AI and automation tools to enhance reporting and improve efficiency.

This is a hands-on role, instrumental in ensuring financial accuracy and supporting Tekla's profitability and growth objectives. Reporting to the Finance Director and working closely with the Accounting Manager, the Financial Controller will also contribute to a range of ad hoc financial projects and initiatives across the function.

This is a full-time position based in our open-plan, curated office in Copenhagen.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Financial Controlling & Reporting

  • Design, implement and manage the group's balance sheet reconciliations, including building standardised templates and processes across multiple entities
  • Prepare the monthly and year-end group consolidation, including intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translation and consolidated reporting packs
  • Ensure the general ledger is supported by complete, reviewed and documented reconciliations in every period. While taking a hands-on approach to booking journals and ad hoc analysis.

Tax & Trade Compliance

  • Own end-to-end packaging tax obligations, including data capture, calculation and filing
  • Perform compliance reviews over packaging tax, taking a proactive approach as Tekla's global footprint grows
  • Analyse customs and import duties, covering tariff classification, country of origin, preferential rates and duty paid versus duty due, and identify recovery and savings opportunities

Financial Analysis & Performance

  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial performance metrics
  • Perform variance and accuracy analyses to validate forecasts, budgets, and data integrity, encouraging transparency and accountability
  • Investigate material variances and implement process improvements that enhance forecasting precision and analytical rigour
  • Provide insightful financial analysis to support business planning, cost efficiencies and strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business objectives

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Drive continuous improvement by leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance financial processes, systems, and reporting tools
  • Support the automation programme within the accounting team, including Intrastat and VAT reporting
  • Review and implement continual improvements in Business Central, including VAT code configuration, VAT statements and financial reports
  • Strengthen documentation and controls across all owned processes so they are auditable and transferable

We'd love to hear from you if you are / have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards and tax regulations
  • Demonstrable experience of group consolidation and intercompany eliminations in a multi-entity, multi-currency environment
  • Strong working knowledge of global VAT and sales tax concepts
  • Exposure to packaging tax regimes is an advantage
  • Experience designing and operating a balance sheet reconciliation control framework
  • Confident ERP user, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
  • Demonstrable experience using AI tools such as Claude to optimise and automate financial processes and reporting, for example building reporting dashboards, automating reconciliation and compliance workflows, or analysing large transactional data sets
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large transactional data sets
  • Experience from a high-growth business within fashion, textiles or luxury consumer goods is an advantage
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Applications will be reviewed and interviews conducted on an ongoing basis, with the aim of the successful candidate joining us as soon as possible.
