Senior Legacy & Modernization Engineer (Synon/RPG)

For one of our major clients in the Financial Services industry, we are looking for two Senior Engineers for a niche modernization project. You will play a vital role in maintaining the core legacy application while actively driving the transition to modern formats through innovative AI-driven conversion tools.
🛠 What you’ll do

Maintain and optimize the existing codebase written in Synon (CA2E) and RPG (Fixed Format).

Drive modernization by facilitating the shift from legacy code to RPGLE Free Format.

Pioneer AI-driven conversion: Participate in the current Proof of Concept (POC) phase, testing AI tools for automated code conversion.

Bridge the gap: Convert and fix RPG formats to align with future-state modern standards.

Collaborate in a balanced team: Work alongside 8 developers (Juniors and Seniors), a Product Owner, and a Business Developer.

Ensure stability: Act as a technical anchor for core applications during a period of team transition.
✅ What we’re looking for

7–10 years of experience: This is a niche profile requiring deep technical seniority.

Legacy Expertise: Essential, deep knowledge of Synon (CA2E) and RPG; these are the backbone of the platform.

Migration Mindset: Proven ability to work with RPGLE Free Format and a strong interest in modernization strategies.

Innovation & AI: Interest or experience in exploring AI for code refactoring and conversion.

Context: You are a replacement for departing team members, tasked with maintaining budget stability and application integrity.

Fluent English + NL residency (no sponsorship).
Tech Stack: Synon (CA2E), RPG (Fixed Format), RPGLE Free Format, AI-driven conversion tools.

Modernization Roadmap: Currently in the POC stage with results expected in 2 months. The team is exploring internal AI solutions with an option for external partnerships.
