Ahold - Senior DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

Albert Heijn is seeking an experienced AKS DevOps Engineer to operate, secure, and continuously improve its Azure Kubernetes (AKS) platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day reliability, scalability, and security of containerized workloads running in Azure.

You will work closely with development and DevOps teams to ensure stable deployments, strong automation, and fast incident resolution. This role suits an engineer who enjoys hands-on Kubernetes operations, automation, and working in a large-scale enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide operational support for AKS clusters, including monitoring, incident response, and performance optimization.

• Manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads (Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets).

• Perform cluster upgrades, patching, scaling, and lifecycle management in coordination with Azure services.

• Design, implement, and support CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications.

• Ensure security best practices across AKS environments (RBAC, Azure AD integration, Network Policies, Secrets management).

• Troubleshoot networking issues related to ingress, load balancers, DNS, and cluster connectivity.

• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to improve deployment reliability and automation.

• Participate in on-call rotations to respond to incidents and outages.

• Create and maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and operational documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, preferably AKS on Azure.

• Solid knowledge of Azure cloud services, including VNETs, NSGs, Load Balancers, Azure AD, and Azure Monitor.

• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.

• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions).

• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex environments.

• Excellent communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams.
