Senior Azure DevOps Engineer

Amsterdam

At Sytac, we build high-performing engineering teams for leading organizations in the Netherlands and beyond. We combine a pragmatic, people-first culture with strong technical craftsmanship — giving engineers autonomy in real production environments, backed by a consultancy that invests in growth, community, and long-term partnerships.

For one of our large, enterprise-scale clients in a highly regulated domain, we are looking for a Senior Kubernetes / Azure DevOps Engineer to strengthen a cloud foundations and platform engineering initiative. You’ll work at the core of the organisation’s Azure landing zones, Kubernetes environments, and cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security, and operational excellence across critical products and services.

This role is suited for an engineer who thrives in complex environments, enjoys solving ambiguity with structure, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams.

What you’ll do

  • Operate, maintain, and upgrade enterprise-scale Kubernetes clusters (AKS / EKS or similar)

  • Troubleshoot complex platform issues across networking, workloads, scaling, and cluster operations

  • Manage and remediate vulnerabilities (CVEs) in container images and dependencies

  • Rebuild and redeploy images as part of regular platform maintenance and security improvements

  • Improve and maintain CI/CD workflows supporting Kubernetes workloads (GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Jenkins, etc.)

  • Automate compliance, security, and governance checks across clusters and pipelines

  • Support development teams by aligning platform updates with application requirements

  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code (Helm, Kustomize, Terraform) and cloud automation standards

  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures

  • Collaborate closely with platform, cloud, and security teams in a high-performing environment

What we’re looking for (Must-have)

  • Senior-level experience, clearly demonstrated through prior roles and responsibilities

  • Strong background in Azure and enterprise-scale Azure landing zones / cloud foundations

  • Proven experience operating Kubernetes in production at scale (AKS, EKS, or comparable)

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex Kubernetes and infrastructure issues

  • Experience working in large enterprises or regulated environments

  • Strong communication skills and team-first mindset

  • Comfortable collaborating in a diverse international environment

  • Able to handle ambiguity, complexity, and shifting priorities with confidence

Strongly preferred

  • Experience with Databricks infrastructure and understanding of how it operates on cloud foundations

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (not necessarily a specialist, but must understand core concepts)

  • Knowledge of enterprise cloud foundations (ESL, core infra, networking components)

  • Basic networking understanding (subnets, routing, DNS, load balancing)

  • Proactive, communicative personality — not passive; enjoys team collaboration

Required technical skills

  • 3+ years operating Kubernetes in production

  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, networking, and deployment strategies

  • Hands-on experience with container image management (Docker, BuildKit, etc.)

  • CI/CD tooling: GitLab CI, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Concourse, or similar

  • Infrastructure-as-code tooling: Helm, Kustomize, Terraform

  • Monitoring and observability: Prometheus, Grafana

  • Strong scripting ability (Bash, Python, or Go)

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail

Nice to have

  • CKAD or CKA certification

  • Experience with Kubernetes security (Pod Security, Network Policies)

  • Familiarity with service meshes (Istio, Linkerd)

  • Exposure to Azure, AWS, GCP, or OpenStack cloud ecosystems

  • Contributions to open-source or Kubernetes community projects

What we offer

  • A high-impact engineering role in a complex and large-scale cloud ecosystem

  • Hybrid working setup

  • Long-running engagement with strong extension potential

  • Engineering culture focused on automation, reliability, and ownership

  • Access to Sytac’s community, engineering expertise, and continuous learning support
