Project Overview:

ING is scaling and operationalizing an ML-powered fraud detection system designed to reduce false positives in a legacy rule-based setup. The solution is being rolled out across multiple countries—each with unique data and regulatory challenges. The current phase focuses on improving system reliability, refactoring technical debt, and preparing the platform for autonomous operation.

Role Overview:
You’ll work as a Senior Data Engineer at the intersection of data engineering and MLOps (with an initial focus on data engineering). You’ll lead technical design, implement scalable solutions, and guide junior team members in adopting engineering best practices. MLOps maturity is a near-future priority, so a mindset geared toward automation and reliability is

Architect robust data pipelines and workflows
Drive code quality, scalability, and observability improvements
Mentor and support junior engineers
Collaborate across teams to align on data strategy and infrastructure
Prepare the system for long-term autonomy and maintainability
