Internship - Energy and Decarbonisation

What We Do Systemiq orchestrates system change in clean energy, circular material solutions, and sustainable land use. This involves re-imagining industries, re-configuring the energy world, and regenerating ecosystems to address systemic failures, unlocking economic opportunities that benefit business, society, and the environment.
Position
Throughout the year SYSTEMIQ takes on a number of interns across different areas of the business. Please note, these internships are not guaranteed at specific times, but are recruited on a year-round need to hire basis dependant on project requirements.
These internships offer a chance to work on highly strategic projects with exposure to high calibre scientific research and strategy consultancy work, focusing on developing world-leading solutions to drive system change.
We work with both global blue chip clients, public-private partnerships and ground-breaking new ventures. Recent initiatives include advising on circular economy in Germany, developing go-to-market strategies for new technologies as well as forest restoration and
preventing ocean plastic pollution in South East Asia.
As this is a speculative application, there may not be any roles currently available. We will however assess your application and if your skills match what we are looking for, you will become part of our talent pool and we will be in touch should any suitable positions arise.
Do you want to be part of the change?We are looking for an intern with a desire to work for 3 months in our Clean Energy Systems Platform. You will help enable the decarbonisation of energy-consuming sectors. We start with harder-to-abate sectors and progressively expanding to other product/service sectors, by engaging with the full value chain to reach a critical scale of deployment of portfolio of solutions
We will help develop your advanced problem-solving, analytical and relationship skills. You will gain experience working on strategy type projects to deliver breakthrough insights, action and results. You are keen to work in a small company where you can play a shaping role and make an impact.
Our work includes
- We work with smaller business coalitions to create differentiated markets for low-carbon products and services – for example, the development of a low-methane natural gas market.
- We partner with ambitious industry leaders to help them scope and seize the benefits of the low-carbon transition (e.g. assessing risks and opportunities of the energy transition for a mining company).
- We join forces with innovators who propose distinctive, low-carbon solutions to accelerate their growth, like nuclear fusion and hydrogen-based aviation.
Requirements
SYSTEMIQ is looking for individuals with a strong record of excellence and achievement. You have proven that in different contexts and are keen to work in a young, entrepreneurial company where you can get involved in a variety of work, shape the business and make maximum impact. You are passionate about SYSTEMIQ's mission and approach to system change. Experience (academic and/ or corporate) in energy/ decarbonisation fields is desirable.
- Degree in a relevant discipline; additional MSc and / or PhD are also very welcome.
- Demonstrable passion for sustainability / social enterprise topics. Work experience in this this area is also hugely beneficial
- in consideration for this role.
- Strong analytics and problem solving / structuring skills.
- Instinctive ability to absorb and digest relevant scientific literature from multiple sources.
- Relationship management skills, also on a senior level (senior scientists, C-level from the industry, policy makers etc.)
- Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to identify opportunities and new initiatives.
- Evidenced passion for the sustainability/ environment/ social enterprise space
- Natural alignment with SYSTEMIQ values; Creativity, Challenge, Collaborate, Change and Care
