At Swap, we’re building a culture that values clarity, creativity, and shared ownership as we redefine how global commerce works.

About the Role
We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Controller who will take ownership of core financial operations including accounting, tax, treasury, accounts payable, audit, and month-end close and will ensure strong financial controls and compliance while building scalable processes. This is an exciting role for a problem solver that thrives in a scale-up environment — comfortable operating both strategically and at a detailed level. You’ll be as confident reviewing complex accounting issues as you are improving processes, implementing systems, and solving operational bottlenecks. The responsibilities of this role can change in line with your skills in the future and this is an opportunity to shape this role as Swap grows.

Key responsibilities
Technical Accounting: Maintain and develop the group accounting policies, ensuring appropriate revenue and cost recognition is taking place. Research technical accounting matters in line with FRS102 or local accounting standards and determine the reporting implications of new business activities.
Reporting: Own the monthly reporting process, both regional and consolidated reporting, in line with agreed timelines.
Statutory Audit: Lead the first Group audit (including consolidation and 6 legal entities audits in different jurisdictions) and be the main point of contact for the auditors.
Systems and controls: Improve and develop internal controls and processes and implement the necessary tools to maximise efficiency via better utilisation of software, AI and data. Manage the implementation and post go-live management of the new ERP (Netsuite or similar), support the system optimisation and introduce finance transformation initiatives that can support rapid expansion across new markets.
Tax: Own all internal tax workstreams including Corporation Tax, VAT and Sales Tax. Manage the relationship with the current outsourced Tax providers and proactively identify local compliance requirement subject to new business activities and expansion including the design of the Transfer Pricing policy.
Accounts Payable and Treasury: Oversee Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of invoices, seeking opportunities to automate where possible.
Leadership: Mentor and develop a small team, set performance objectives and foster a culture of accountability and growth.

What we would like to see:
● Qualified (CPA or similar) with significant post qualification experience in a controller/senior manager role. Previous experience in an audit position in an accountancy firm strongly preferred.
● Strong technical accounting, tax and statutory reporting knowledge in an international setting.
● Demonstrable experience in leading a transactional finance team with strong stakeholder management skills.
● Pro-technology attitude with proven experience in getting the best from accounting software. Flexible and adaptable to change including new systems.
● Highly numerate with analytical skills and attention to detail.
● Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision in a rapidly changing environment.
● A problem solving, hands on and common sense approach, not afraid to talk to multiple stakeholders and challenge their responses.
● Comfortable navigating ambiguity and change, taking ownership and building rather than maintaining.
● Interest in eCommerce and working in a start-up environment.

Benefits:
● Competitive base salary.
● Stock options in a high-growth startup.
● Competitive PTO with public holidays additional.
● Private Health.
● Pension.
● Wellness benefits.
● Breakfast Mondays.

Diversity & Equal Opportunities:

We embrace diversity and equality in a serious way. We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and views. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Creating a culture of equality isn't just the right thing to do; it's also the smart thing.
