Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d)

With over 4 million domains and more than 2 million customers, we, as an IONOS company, are among the largest web hosting providers worldwide. We operate two TÜV-certified data centers with over 70,000 servers. Our products are diverse and form the backbone of our success, but they only come to life through our amazing employees.

As a team, we maintain and develop proprietary and open-source software (primarily mail and file systems) for the shared storage service (the hosting packages from Strato and Ionos) with around 27 million email accounts. We understand our software as comprehensively as possible in order to maintain control over functionalities and be able to respond quickly to errors ourselves. We constantly strive to further optimise our software, which is why we monitor the performance of the live environment and provide support in the event of problems. In addition, we design and develop new tools that improve processes or protect our platform, for example.

We are integrated into international structures by working closely with teams from other parts of the group, some of which are located in other countries.

Tasks

• Further development of mail backends for the hosting platform (MTA, IMAP, POP3 and SIEVE servers)
• Refactoring of existing applications
• Design and implementation of new high-performance and secure infrastructures

Qualifications

• Programming experience in C and Perl
• In-depth knowledge of UNIX and POSIX APIs as well as mail protocols, especially IMAP, SMTP, Sieve, POP3
• Proficient in using UNIX systems (Linux)
• Fluent written and spoken German and English
• Debugging in complex environments 
• Experience in the field of hosting companies or large cloud platforms is an advantage
