Stitch is a payments infrastructure company on a mission to make it easier for enterprise businesses to connect to the financial system and build better experiences for their customers.

We are expanding the team to enable Stitch to broaden our product offering and extend our geographical footprint.

The Engineering Manager is a key leadership role responsible for managing a team of engineers, overseeing project execution, and ensuring that development processes align with the strategic goals of the company. This individual combines technical expertise with managerial skills to guide their team in delivering high-quality software solutions, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Reporting Line

Director of Engineering

Key Responsibilities 

  1. People Management: Performs key people manager responsibilities such as performance, probation, leave, grievance and disciplinary management, among others.
  2. Team Management and Development: Manages and develops a team of software engineers, setting clear goals and managing project loads.
  3. Team Development: Provides supportive feedback, and career development guidance and encourages as well as supports learning and development.
  4. Project Management: Oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects within agreed timelines and budgets, ensuring high-quality standards are met. Implements agile methodologies to enhance team productivity and efficiency.
  5. Collaboration and Communication: Acts as a key liaison between the engineering team and other teams and departments, to ensure projects are aligned with business objectives and customer needs.
  6. Technical Guidance: Provides technical leadership and guidance to the team, ensuring best practices in software development are followed. Stays abreast of new technologies and industry trends, incorporating them into planning and decision-making.
  7. Performance Management: Conducts bi-annual performance reviews, fosters a culture of feedback, and implements strategies for individual and team growth.
  8. Process Improvement: Continually assesses and improves development processes and practices to enhance team effectiveness and product quality.
  9. Recruitment and Team Building: Participates in interviewing prospective job candidates, and evaluating technical screenings. Plays a crucial role in the onboarding process, building a cohesive and high-performing engineering team. 
  10. Code Contribution & Quality Assurance: Champions a culture of high-quality code contributions and rigorous quality assurance processes. Establishes and enforces coding standards, code reviews, and automated testing frameworks to ensure the delivery of reliable, maintainable, and defect-free software. Leads efforts to identify and remediate technical debt, ensuring that the codebase remains clean and efficient for future development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field
  • Extensive experience in software development and proven leadership in managing engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies and lifecycle.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and inspire team members.
  • Strong ability to mentor engineering team members to ensure continued technical growth and progression in their career trajectory
  • Ability to work effectively with other Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, and Product Managers.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Sensitive to developers' needs and comfortable creating warm relationships with people.
