Mechanical Technical lead
About the job:
As a Mechanical Technical Lead, you will need to be able to operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Also show knowledge on a wide scope such as heating and cooling of air and water like, chillers, cooling tower, pumps and heat exchange, cooling controls, monitoring systems and others that make part of critical Data Center infrastructure like electrical systems and controls. You will be responsible for coordinate and planning preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You will serve as an expert technical resource interacting with the engineering team and any third-party vendors.
You will need to be involved in construction/commissioning and guarantee a proper handover of your systems. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements, and serve as an expert in your specialty. You will be involved in major modifications to existing infrastructure. Some of the tasks include providing and preparing documents including scopes of works, analysis, specifications, drawings markup and sketches, budget and schedule, interfaces of equipment and systems, startup and commissioning, review, and acceptance of submitting from engineering perspectives. The goals of such projects are to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
You will direct, train, and support all team members in providing hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations. Implementation and execution of site/equipment-specific training exercises is also expected.
As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems, and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the uptime, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the different systems. Monitor multiple information streams in the control room and make accurate mission-critical decisions.
- Develop approaches to reduce operational costs while improving efficiency.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain data center facilities systems and equipment, and respond to abnormal conditions. Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
- Provide tracking and trending of operational characteristics, while also providing operational and maintenance insights into the design review process.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders and team members to develop and review the electrical systems design from due diligence, master planning, design, and construction completion for data center projects and major infrastructure upgrades.
- Support the development of our standard designs, materials, and equipment.
- Identify and scope projects around innovation opportunities as well as technology risks.
- Provide technical mentorship and coaching and foster professional growth within the team.
- Own and manage the program level technical system issues regarding system design, identify and resolve the issues with cross functional teams and stakeholders.
- Provide effective leadership for successful critical system troubleshooting, unit commissioning, repairs/replacements with little to no supervision in quality, quantity, and timeliness as assigned.
- Create test plans, perform testing, and validate designs to meet engineering requirements.
- Provide coordination/input for our facilities programs.
- Respond to critical data center events and alarms and be responsible for being a point of escalation on operational issues if required.
- Troubleshoot, discover root cause, and resolve potential technical challenges.
- Follow company EHS and safety procedures and process always with eye on the improvement.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree, trade school certification, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience investigating failures and performing waveform analysis.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while prioritizing work efficiently.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- 15+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Experience in design, construction, commission and/or operation of large-scale mission critical facilities or data centers.
- High proficiency of English (being the day-to-day preferred language)
