Frontend Technical Lead

Position Overview
As the Frontend Technical Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of our frontend ecosystem. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable frontend solutions.
You will act as the technical authority for frontend development, leading architecture decisions, establishing development standards, and guiding engineers in building robust React applications. Working closely with Product, DevOps, and backend teams, you will help drive the evolution of our platform while ensuring engineering excellence.
This role requires someone who is passionate about building performant, maintainable systems, mentoring developers, and creating best-in-class frontend experiences.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for frontend development across the platform.
- Design and maintain scalable frontend architecture using React and Next.js.
- Establish and champion coding standards, best practices, and engineering principles across the frontend team.
- Work closely with Product Owners, DevOps, and backend engineers to align technical solutions with business and product goals.
- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and architecture decisions for new features and platform improvements.
- Ensure high-quality code through reviews, testing strategies, and performance optimisation.
- Identify and implement improvements to developer experience, tooling, and development workflows.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to frontend engineers, helping them grow their technical capabilities.
- Contribute actively to the codebase, leading by example with hands-on development where required.
- Support Agile development practices, contributing to planning, technical estimation, and sprint ceremonies.
Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with React, including frameworks such as Next.js.
- Extensive experience developing modern web applications using TypeScript.
- Proven experience designing frontend architecture and scalable UI systems.
- Experience collaborating with backend engineers to build end-to-end applications.
- Strong understanding of frontend performance optimisation and application scalability.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, mentorship, or leading engineering initiatives.
Desirable
- Experience with modern build tools and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and deployment environments (Azure DevOps, Vercel, AWS).
- Experience with frontend testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and contributing to technical planning.
- Knowledge of web security best practices, including OWASP principles and authentication/authorisation patterns.
- Experience building design systems or reusable component libraries.
