Flight Control Laws Engineer

Outline of the Job

You will be responsible for planning evaluation items and test items in accordance with the control requirement specifications for a flying car (manned drone), and for compiling control design reviews.
The control system for a flying car, which incorporates a variety of functions and equipment in a compact fuselage, is complex and precise. In order to operate the aircraft as a passenger aircraft, type certification activities are also extremely important. This position is important to ensure the safety and reliability of the aircraft control system by conducting design reviews based on the control requirement specifications and by defining evaluation and test items to properly evaluate and verify the control design, from overall control to each control function, to facilitate design activities.
The successful candidate will lead a team in charge of control law evaluation and promote collaboration and cooperation with each team and member of the control design team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and verify flight control laws for eVTOL aircraft across all flight phases.
  • Develop and maintain linear and nonlinear simulation models for stability, handling qualities, and robustness evaluation.
  • Conduct open-loop and closed-loop analysis (time-domain and frequency-domain) to ensure compliance with certification standards (e.g., ADS-33E, MIL-STD-1797, EASA SC-VTOL, FAA Part 23/25/27/29).
  • Formulate test plans and procedures to validate control law performance in SIL, HIL, and flight test environments.
  • Provide direct flight test support, including preparation of test cards, planning of control law evaluation maneuvers, and real-time monitoring during test campaigns.
  • Analyze flight test data to refine control law design, validate models, and ensure compliance with handling quality requirements.
  • Support real-time implementation of control algorithms on safety-critical avionics and flight control computers.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, avionics, and flight test teams to ensure seamless integration and certification readiness.
  • Document designs, analyses, and test results in a form suitable for regulatory authorities and certification partners.

 

Essential Skills

  • Senior-level understanding of aircraft and rotorcraft flight dynamics, including aeroservoelastic effects.
  • Strong background in modern control techniques (e.g., robust control, optimal control, gain scheduling, loop-shaping).
  • Proven experience in designing cascaded control architectures (inner/outer loops, mixing matrix, envelope protection).
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for control system modeling, analysis, and auto-code generation.
  • Experience with linear analysis methods (eigenvalue analysis, Bode/Nyquist, Nichols plots) and stability margin assessment.
  • Familiarity with software development for real-time or safety-critical applications (C/C++).
  • Hands-on experience with sensor fusion, filtering (Kalman, complementary, α-β), and real-time signal processing.

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in system identification techniques and data-driven modeling for flight dynamics.
  • Background in designing flight envelope protections, turn coordination, and advanced guidance modes.
  • Familiarity with requirements-based development and certification processes (DO-178C, DO-160, SAE ARP4754A/4761).
  • Practical exposure to flight testing, including control law evaluation, parameter estimation, and pilot-in-the-loop testing.
  • Experience with flight automation algorithms for both multicopter (over-actuated systems) and conventional aircraft.
  • Knowledge of automatic differentiation tools, optimization frameworks, and control allocation methods.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical results clearly to both engineering teams and certification authorities

  • Experience in negotiating and coordinating with internal and external parties.
  • Able to work proactively on highly novel themes.

Type of Employment

  • Permanent Employee or Contract Employee
  • Probationary period: 3~6 month

Place of Employment

  • Nagoya Airport Office: Nagoya Airport Terminal Building 2nd floor, Toyoba, Toyoyama-Cho, Nishikasugai, Aichi Prefecture
  • Scope of Change: Places determined by the Company (including places where telework is performed)

Working Hours

  • Flextime or Discretionary labor system
  • Basic working hours: Start 9:00 End 18:00(Including 1hour break time)

  • 115 days off per year(Saturday / Sundays / Newyear holidays(12/29~1/3) / Company designated holidays)

Salary

  • Annual salary paid in 12 monthly installments (including fixed overtime allowance)
  • To be determined based on skills, experience, and abilities
