Research Analyst (All Genders)

Germany; Ukraine ; United Kingdom

ABOUT US

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionising the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop, and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost-effective — providing operators with a decisive edge in contested environments.

We are focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems — not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe, today.

YOUR MISSION

The Research Analyst (All Genders) produces open-source intelligence on military capabilities, defence markets and competitors. The role suits a recent graduate with think-tank or comparable research experience who wants to apply OSINT and data-collection skills to live commercial and operational questions.

This is a remote position to be based in one of following countries: United Kingdom, Germany, or Ukraine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and analysis

  • Research military systems, programmes and force developments, with a focus on unmanned and autonomous systems and the war in Ukraine.
  • Build and maintain structured registers of competitors, products and capabilities, with sources and confidence levels recorded for each entry.
  • Produce market assessments covering vendors, programme status, contract awards and likely procurement outcomes.
  • Write concise briefs and answer ad hoc requests from leadership, product and business development.

Open-source collection

  • Collect and verify information from official, commercial, media and social media sources, including Russian- and Ukrainian-language material.
  • Collect and triage imagery and video from Telegram and other platforms; geolocate, chronolocate and identify equipment where relevant.
  • Build and run scrapers and scheduled collection scripts for company data and social media channels.

Data and tooling

  • Clean, structure and store collected data so it is searchable and reusable.
  • Maintain provenance: record where each item came from, when it was collected, and how it was verified.
  • Contribute to the team's internal tools, dashboards and collection workflows.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

  • A degree in war studies, international relations, security studies or a related field. A master's degree or hands-on experience, such as military service, is an advantage.
  • Research experience at a think tank, research institute, OSINT organisation or comparable body, including internships.
  • Advanced open-source research skills: search techniques, source evaluation, verification, geolocation and imagery analysis.
  • A working knowledge of military equipment, force structure and the war in Ukraine.
  • Experience of market or industry analysis, such as mapping vendors, programmes or contracts.
  • Clear, concise written English.
  •  Sound judgement on operational security and research ethics.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK, Germany, or Ukraine.

Nice to Have

  • Working knowledge of Germany, Ukrainian and/or Russian.
  • Data collection skills: scraping websites, procurement portals and Telegram channels using Python or similar tools.
  • Data handling with Python (pandas), SQL or spreadsheets at an advanced level.
  • Familiarity with procurement data sources
  • Published analysis, such as reports, articles or investigations.

SECURITY CLEARANCE

Due to the nature of our work in the defence sector, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance required for this position. Details will be provided during the recruitment process.
