Senior Business Analyst, Ceded Outwards Reinsurance

Programme Description
The company is transforming its Ceded Reinsurance operation to improve its effectiveness and accuracy, ultimately helping to achieve a diversified, balanced portfolio that generates low volatility and a low 90s COR throughout the cycle.
To achieve success, contributions will be needed from several teams across the company including: Underwriting, Ceded Reinsurance, Actuarial, Claims and Information Technology. The transformation will also be supported by an external consulting partner to drive progress, technical development and alignment with industry best practice. Given the multitude of key stakeholders and target timeline for delivery, the company is seeking a highly organized, detail oriented and adept business analyst.
Join Our Team
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join us as an interim contractor for a 12-18 month engagement. This role will work closely with our Ceded Outwards Reinsurance Transformation team to drive technology implementation and target operating model design for our Global Ceded function supporting our portfolio of business.
The successful candidate will have experience through the full change and project lifecycle, demonstrating excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, be solution driven, and possesses the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. This individual will be an integral part of the Ceded Outwards Reinsurance Transformation team committed to excellence and who will support and contribute to an environment of continuous improvement. The role will report into the VP, Reinsurance Product Lead with dotted line into the Business Product Owner who is the Global Head of Ceded Reinsurance. You will also work closely with the Ceded Reinsurance SMEs, wider business stakeholders, data and enterprise architects, and dedicated delivery teams.
The preferred location for the role is New York, US. Key project and business stakeholders are split between New York and London. The role will require flexibility in terms of working hours to accommodate working with US and UK time zones a minimum of 3 days per week.
SALARY: We are open to setting this up as a day rate contract at $900 - $1,200 per day due to the specialist nature of the engagement. We are also open to other contracting options.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Analyze and document business processes and workflows and identify areas for improvement and optimization.
- Develop and maintain this documentation for financial processes and procedures, including narratives and process maps
- Elicit and define business and technical requirements in support of new technology implementation.
- Identify and communicate implications downstream and upstream from system and process changes
- Develop and maintain detailed business process models, workflows, use cases, functional specifications, non-functional requirements and any other required deliverables as part of the Change Delivery Framework and SDLC.
- Manage user story development documenting requirements and success criteria clearly.
- Facilitate workshops, interviews and user sessions to gather detailed requirements and feedback.
- Conduct gap analyses and propose solutions to bridge business.
- Support change management activities including change impact assessments leveraging key business analysis artefacts
- Work with QA teams to develop test cases and validate system performance, ensuring documentation supports activity such as traceability matrices.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for application support processes and procedures as part of transition to production
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and on the design of solutions.
- Support optimization of the wider ceded reinsurance operating model, design of transition states and new ways of working to support the transformation.
Your skills and abilities should include:
- Practitioner qualification such as BCS Diploma in Business Analysis or similar
- Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, BPM frameworks, or familiarity with APQC process classification framework an asset.
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in business analysis, systems development, and business process management ideally within the insurance or financial services industry. Prior experience with Ceded outwards systems and processes would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated track record with driving process improvements and facilitating transformation initiatives.
- Strong written, verbal, and graphic communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to varying audiences
- Stakeholder Management skills
- Motivated, innovative, team-oriented, with strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and analytical abilities, particularly with regards to business process management.
- Ability to be a self-starter, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Having a service-oriented mindset when working with individuals across the organization
- Familiarity with business analysis tools (e.g. BPMN, UML, Miro)
