Join Our Team  

The Senior Tax Accountant will assist in many aspects of the company’s tax functions, including tax compliance, planning, and reporting. This role involves working closely with managers and above to ensure that the company’s tax positions are optimal, compliant with regulations, and aligned with overall business objectives.  Role will primarily focus on the US and Canada but can extend to other jurisdictions if necessary.  This position reports to the Tax Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare detailed, organized, and cross-referenced working papers which agree to standardized ASC 740 and SSAP 101 templates in support of financial statements and related disclosures. Completion of working papers should be prepared/reviewed timely and relatively error free. 
  • Prepare and maintain support for deferred tax inventories, including full balance sheet review of deferred tax items corresponding to trial balance accounts.
  • Responsible for preparing tax journal entries and reconciling tax accounts to support.
  • Assist with preparation of tax footnote disclosure for US GAAP, US Statutory and Canadian OFSI
  • Prepare supporting documentation to support position on US tax attributes.
  • Assist in ensuring tax controls are operating effectively and assist in gathering support related to testing by internal and external auditors.

Tax Compliance:

  • Assist in the review of all separate company Federal, state and local tax returns including but not limited to Federal Forms 1120, 1120PC, 1120F, 1065, 5471, 5472, 8858, 1042 and 720 to ensure returns are timely filed, accurate, and complete.
  • Assist in gathering and providing information to external tax preparer.
  • Prepare and/or review return-to-provision in tax software (CorpTax). Review return-to-provision differences to understand the drivers including if assessing if it resulted from a change in estimate or an error.
  • Preparation of monthly sales tax filing for NY, Federal Forms 1042, 720, and other forms that are not completed by external tax preparer.
  • Ensure tax payments are made timely including supporting documentation and ensuring payments are appropriately reflected in tax accounts.

Technology/Process Improvement:

  • Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvements and assist in implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function.
  • Maintain fixed assets for tax books for all US subsidiaries in Workday ledger including ensuring appropriate depreciation method is used.

Tax Controversy:  Assist in IRS and State audit examinations by compiling relevant data in response to IDRs (information document requests) from taxing authorities.  Assist in the tracking, review, and resolution of notices/letters received from taxing authorities. 

Advisory: Identify new tax adjustments or other tax issues and independently research impact to SiriusPoint.  Be able to effectively communicate with Tax Manager and/or Director of Group Tax Reporting & Compliance.  Research tax issues for tax planning and compliance reporting as directed by Tax Manager, Director of Group Tax Reporting & Compliance, and/or Director of Group Tax Planning & Advisory.  Assist in drafting memoranda to support and document conclusions as directed.

Collaboration:

  • Assist with completing information requests and answering questions regarding SiriusPoint’s tax accounts from outside audit firms and from internal teams by demonstrating analytical and reasoning skills.
  • In general, manage and build relationships with external service providers.

 

Maintain organized and thorough tax records and documentation.  Ensure documentation is readily accessible.

Monitor current and proposed tax law changes to determine impact on SiriusPoint.

Other projects as directed by the Tax Manager, Director of Group Tax Reporting & Compliance, and Director of Group Tax Planning & Advisory, including information reporting, transfer pricing, tax planning and modeling, and other. 

 

Your skills and abilities should include:

  • Must have working knowledge of ASC 740 and SSAP 101, and GAAP accounting
  • Minimum B.S. in Accounting with tax concentration. S. in tax is a plus but not required. 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in taxation areas of property and casualty insurance companies
  • 2-4 years of public accounting experience servicing property and casualty insurance clients preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of CorpTax is a plus but not required.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Attention to detail, strong Excel skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and able to adapt easily to change
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  Able to work well with a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.

SALARY: The estimated annual salary range for this position is mentioned below. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, SiriusPoint will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.

SALARY RANGE

$120,000 - $130,000 USD
