Role Overview

ShipMonk is seeking a hands-on IT Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and support network infrastructure across our fulfillment centers and offices. This is an active, field-driven role, not a management position. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced warehouse environments, understands operational urgency, and takes pride in building clean, resilient infrastructure from the ground up.

This role is critical to enabling warehouse operations, scanner reliability, automation, and uptime across a growing 3PL environment.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and support MDF and IDF rooms from scratch, including rack layout, power planning, grounding, labeling, and documentation
  • Deploy and maintain Ubiquiti infrastructure (switches, APs, gateways, UPS, RPS, cameras)
  • Perform structured cabling (Cat6/Cat6A), including cable routing, termination, testing, and cleanup
  • Safely operate scissor lifts to install APs, cameras, and cabling at height
  • Design and review network layouts, floor plans, and infrastructure diagrams
  • Conduct Wi-Fi heatmaps and coverage analysis (Ekahau or equivalent)
  • Implement network redundancy, power failover, and resiliency best practices
  • Configure VLANs, routing, firewall rules, VPNs, and basic network security controls
  • Troubleshoot network issues across OSI Layers 1–7
  • Travel to fulfillment centers to support launches, expansions, and remediation work
  • Create and maintain clear documentation (network diagrams, runbooks, standards)
  • Coach and support junior IT staff through hands-on guidance and knowledge sharing

What you'll need:

  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, ports, firewalls)
  • Deep familiarity with Ubiquiti ecosystem
  • Experience with MDF/IDF design, rack builds, and structured cabling
  • Knowledge of power redundancy, UPS, RPS, and environmental considerations
  • Ability to independently execute physical installs in warehouse environments
  • Solid grasp of network security basics and access control concepts
  • Comfortable working across Linux/Mac/Windows networking environments

Professional Expectations

  • Highly organized with strong documentation habits
  • Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize operational impact
  • Clear, professional communication with IT and Operations teams
  • Self-starter mentality — sees problems and fixes them
  • Willingness to be onsite and hands-on when the business needs it

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered
  • Highly desirable certifications:
    • Ubiquiti (URSCA or equivalent)
    • CompTIA Network+
    • Cisco CCNA
    • CWNA / CWDP (wireless)
  • Ongoing certification and training encouraged
