Role Overview
As the Head of Engineering at Seobility, you lead the technical heart of a mature, high-traffic SEO SaaS product. In a rapidly changing market shaped by AI-driven search, you are the architect of our organizational and technical evolution. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will bridge the gap between engineering challenges and business impact, guiding the team through a transformation toward greater autonomy while we pioneer AI-native development workflows.
Your Impact (First 3-6 Months)
- Build Trusting Partnerships: Establish deep working relationships with the engineering team and tech leads to foster our culture of psychological safety and high performance.
- Enable Distributed Ownership: Support the team in defining clear ownership. Guide the transition from functional (FE/BE) to cross-functional product squads that own their vertical slices.
- Optimize Flow: Partner with the team to identify bottlenecks and implement value-driven delivery cycles that improve predictability and reduce friction - not just "working faster," but working smoother.
- Strategic Roadmap: Develop a roadmap that balances the strategic transformation of the engineering organization (e.g., tackling tech debt, upskilling) with our product innovation goals.
- Establish Measurability: Answer the question "What brings value?" by introducing engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, Cycle Time) that connect code shipped to actual business impact in collaboration with our Central Platform team.
Your responsibilities
- Organizational Transformation: Guide the evolution of our collaboration model from functional roles toward cross-functional efficiency. You will bridge the gaps between Product, Backend, and Frontend to reduce dependencies and empower squads to deliver end-to-end value.
- Technical Vision: Co-create the technical vision & roadmap with your Tech Leads, balancing "tech debt" reduction with feature delivery.
- AI-Native Evolution: Spearhead the adoption of AI-native development practice, tooling, and automation to significantly increase team leverage and engineering efficiency.
- Strategic Collaboration: Act as a high-level sparring partner to the CEO and Product leadership, navigating trade-offs between technical sustainability and delivery speed.
- Scalability & Excellence: Own the technical direction for our data-heavy platform, security, data and privacy (Audits, GDPR), performance, and seamless migrations while collaborating with the saas.group Central Platform team.
- People Development: Mentor and empower an international engineering team to embrace full ownership of their domains and foster confidence in autonomous decision-making.
What you bring to the table
- SaaS Leadership: Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-scale production environment, with a focus on efficient team structures and operational excellence.
- Technical Credibility: You possess high technical credibility across modern stacks (ideally PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, and cloud infrastructure) and feel at home discussing architecture with senior engineers.
- Product-First Mindset: You prioritize engineering efforts based on customer value and business impact rather than technical elegance for its own sake.
- Change Management: You are skilled at building alignment during transitions, leading teams through change and resistance to a new rhythm and velocity.
- Enabler Mentality: You pride yourself on empowering experts to take full ownership rather than being the sole decision-maker. You don’t want to be the bottleneck.
- AI Affinity: A forward-thinking approach to using LLMs and AI agents as a core lever for both product features and internal productivity.
- Domain understanding: Domain understanding of SEO-related web technologies (websites, crawling, indexing, content analysis) is a strong plus.
- Communication: Fluent English is a must; German is a strong advantage given the brand’s roots.
