About us

Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved.  Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

Having raised more than $125M in funding to date to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), Riverlane partners with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

At Riverlane, we are building the world’s first quantum error correction (QEC) stack (Deltaflow), that will enable reliable quantum computing, marking a new era of computation. As a Staff Test Engineer at Riverlane, you’ll be a key force behind the quality, reliability, and evolution of Deltaflow. You won’t just test the product - you’ll shape how quality is built into everything we ship.

Working at the intersection of hardware and software, you’ll help ensure our systems meet the highest standards as they move from cutting-edge development into real-world deployment.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and own comprehensive test strategies that safeguard the quality of our hardware and software systems.
  • Turn testing insights into clear documentation and shared learnings that raise the bar across the team.
  • Advance our testing frameworks, deeply integrating them into CI pipelines and continuous regression workflows.
  • Partner closely with verification and validation teams to uncover bugs, refine shared flows, and strengthen our collective knowledge base.
  • Lead by example through mentoring and supporting junior engineers, setting direction, allocating responsibilities, and ensuring depth, rigour, and consistency in our testing efforts.

What you will do

The projects you will work on will be truly unique, complex and large-scale, so you need to be comfortable with engineering to evolving specs.

As integral part of Riverlane’s Quality Assurance team you will test our hardware and software components in an organic and comprehensive way. You will lead the future development of our testing framework (currently in Python) and leverage existing knowledge and software to deeply test our product, Deltaflow.

What we need

  • Experience in writing test plans.
  • Proficiency in Python 3.x.
  • Expertise in testing automation (GitHub CI preferred)
  • Proven experience in testing complex hardware (FPGA/ASIC) and software systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

What can you expect from us

  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme
  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and development, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
