As a Software QA Engineer, whilst being technical and hands-on capable, you will oversee and input to all aspects of quality assurance including applying industry best practices, developing new testing solutions and methods, and establishing metrics. Managing the successful delivery of projects will require you to plan, coordinate and lead activities across the full delivery lifecycle. This will include working closely with the department’s Product Managers, coordinating with QA and developers, as well as liaising with key project stakeholders as required.
This role offers challenges across a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, including the opportunity to influence the future direction of the department and systems used across the business.
Major Responsibilities
- Follow and evolve QA processes to ensure the use of industry-accepted best practices.
- Develop and execute test cases, scripts, plans and procedures including regressions tests.
- Ensure effective and efficient application of test processes and tools using techniques such as White box, Grey Box, Black box, Test-to-Pass, Test-to-Fail
- Troubleshoot and investigate defects for the software applications.
- Report defects found during testing using Jira as a defect tracking tool.
- Conduct new functionality and regression tests, determine and report issues for follow-up.
- Collaborate with the business to assess or diagnose problems and suggest possible solutions.
- Support end users during User Acceptance Testing phase.
- Build and maintain good communication with all stakeholders involved in the SDLC while working close with them during the different phases.
Additional Responsibilities
There is a strong possibility that this role will also take on Scrum Master responsibilities, which may account for approximately 10 to 20 percent of the overall workload. These responsibilities may include facilitating Scrum ceremonies, supporting sprint planning and retrospectives, removing impediments, and helping the team continuously improve its delivery practices.
Prior experience as a Scrum Master is not required, although it would be considered an advantage. What is essential is a willingness to learn and develop Scrum facilitation skills with the support and guidance of peers.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years working in a similar role
- Experience in software business analysis and/or software quality assurance.
- Experience with defect tracking and test management tools (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, Zephyr).
- Good understanding of using Postman or similar tools for testing APIs
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and manage priorities effectively
- Ability to create future-proof reusable test cases
- Comfortable working with remote teams
- Excellent personal organisation and ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks
- Able to influence and drive projects to meet key milestones and overcome challenges
- Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment that supports production and maintenance level changes
- Comfortable working without routine supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
