Senior Data Analytics Engineer

London, UK

Our vision is to give everyone the belief they can make their move. We aim to make moving simpler, by giving everyone the best place to turn to and return to for access to the tools, expertise, trust, and belief to make it happen.

We’re home to the UK’s largest choice of properties and are the go-to destination for millions of people planning their next move, reading the latest industry news, or just browsing what’s on the market.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Analytics Engineer to take on the most senior position within our Analytics Engineering capability. Although the Analytics Engineering discipline at Rightmove is still developing and maturing, you will be joining a strong, highly capable team that includes both Data Engineers and other Analytics Engineers.

You will also work closely with our  data platform squad, who are responsible for the underlying infrastructure, tooling and enablement that supports our analytical data platform. The platform itself is designed around data mesh principles, and you will play a key role in shaping how domain-aligned data products are built and maintained.

You’ll be part of the broader Data, Analytics and AI organisation, collaborating with Data Engineers, Analysts, Data Scientists, ML Engineers and partners across product and commercial areas. As we continue to align Analytics Engineering to business domains, you will form relationships across the business to ensure our data models and semantic layers reflect real-world domain boundaries and needs.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on raising standards, improving modelling maturity, and guiding others, without formal line management responsibilities.

What you’ll be doing

Technical Leadership and Standards

  • Lead the ongoing development of Analytics Engineering at Rightmove by setting technical direction, defining standards, and driving improvements in modelling quality, governance and reliability
  • Take ownership of the most complex modelling and transformation challenges within the team
  • Develop scalable modelling patterns that align with our data mesh approach
  • Promote strong engineering practices including testing, CI/CD, documentation, version control and code review

Data Modelling and Development

  • Build robust, production-ready dbt models in BigQuery that support analytical and operational use cases.
  • Create and maintain high-quality semantic models in Looker to enable intuitive and reliable self-service analytics.
  • Own the modelling for key domains, ensuring consistency, maintainability and cost efficiency.
  • Work with Data Engineers and the Platform Squad to improve data pipelines, orchestration, development workflows and performance.

Collaboration and Delivery

  • Partner with product teams, commercial stakeholders and domain owners to understand analytical needs and translate them into clean, well-documented data products.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the DNA organisation to ensure alignment, reusability and cross-domain consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify complex areas, reduce unnecessary cost and improve the overall developer experience.

Coaching and Enablement

  • Support and mentor junior Analytics Engineers and analysts, helping them build strong engineering and modelling skills.
  • Enable teams across the business to make effective use of Looker and the domain data models you create.
  • Encourage good documentation, data ownership and clear modelling practices across domain teams.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Thrives in a developing environment where you might not have all the answers but are excited by figuring it out
  • Communicates clearly and works well with engineers, product teams and business stakeholders.
  • Works well with others, can contribute to a team, and collaborate across diverse groups of people
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills – able to tackle complex problems, make informed decisions, and think creatively.
  • Is open to new ideas, embracing change, and quickly adjusting to evolving circumstances.
  • Enjoys continuous learning and keeping up with technological advancements
  • Shows a pro-active approach to solving different issues within the team or within Rightmove.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Significant experience as a Senior or Lead Analytics Engineer
  • Expertise in SQL and strong experience building production-grade, cost efficient dbt models including using sensitive/PII data
  • Strong understanding of semantic modelling and dashboarding for BI tools, ideally Looker
  • Experience defining or improving engineering standards and modelling approaches
  • Experience with modern cloud data environments, ideally Google Cloud
  • Some experience using Python
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow
    • Experience with data mesh or domain-based data ownership principles
