Senior Software Engineer II (Frontend)

Location: London Office / Hybrid (3 days a week working from home)
Reporting to: Engineering Manager - Consumer
The role
As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality software and products, able to be deployed frequently and safely into production. Working with similarly minded people, you will help to shape the way we use and adopt technologies and practices, with a modern engineering mindset. You are an advocate of test automation and have a clear view of where to make the best use of it.
At Rightmove we work as part of autonomous cross-functional teams in an agile environment. Each team owns a part of the Rightmove experience made up of design, product and engineering. You will collaborate to ensure we deliver quality solutions that satisfy millions of users, thousands of agents and hundreds of passionate Rightmovers. You will be responsible for defining solutions to business and technical problems in a way which ensures maintainability, scalability and high performance standards. We work collaboratively across a mix of product and centralised teams, together working towards Rightmove’s strategy.

- Building brilliant features and levelling up our applications using a modern tech stack: TypeScript, React, Express, Node, Kubernetes, and GitLab.
- Partnering with internal teams to solve juicy, complex challenges that make a real impact.
- Shaping the future of our product by influencing what goes into each sprint and helping define the “why” behind our “what.”
- Designing and architecting large-scale systems alongside your team, our Architects, and Principal Engineers - big thinking encouraged!
- Getting involved in engineering forums and helping evolve best practices across Rightmove.
- Mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers—whether through knowledge shares, lunch & learns, or supportive 1:1s.
- Reviewing code collaboratively, debating ideas, and celebrating great engineering together.
- Exploring emerging tech, running experiments, and championing fresh ideas that push us forward.
- Love cracking tough problems and thinking creatively.
- Are passionate about quality; TDD makes you happy, and you know your way around Jest and React Testing Library.
- Enjoy crafting clean, high‑quality code and debating the pros and cons of different approaches.
- Care deeply about application performance and how users interact with the things you build.
- Are excited by modern tech and like to proactively improve how your team works.
- Have strong mentoring experience and get satisfaction from helping others grow.
- Ask great questions and enjoy learning from the people around you.
