Data Architect responsibilities include:
- Evolve the long-term data architecture strategy and data operating model.
- Ensure clarity of data ownership across the organisation, providing an understanding of authoritative data sources and owner responsibilities.
- Map and document end-to-end data flows across our Product Development and Data and Analytics teams, ensuring alignment and visibility.
- Establish standards for data modelling, lineage, data quality rules, data contracts, and governance practices.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy obligations such as right to be forgotten, retention policies, and DPIA adherence.
- Partner with product, engineering, and analytics teams to design scalable, secure, and AI-ready data solutions aligned to business needs.
We’re looking for someone who can:
- Translate business goals into pragmatic, scalable data solutions.
- Balance hands-on modelling with strategic thinking and long-term planning.
- Confidently explain concepts, risks, and trade-offs to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Design for clarity, quality, and resilience across complex distributed systems.
- Champion simplicity, responsible data usage, and high-quality governance.
- Influence data practices across teams in product development, fostering collaboration and strong data stewardship
We are looking for someone who has:
- A background in conceptual/logical/physical data modelling and modern data architecture patterns.
- Experience designing architecture combining an analytical data platform and operational data layer
- Hands-on experience with data pipelines, event streaming, warehousing/lakehouse platforms, and metadata/governance tooling.
- Familiarity with data privacy obligations, DPIAs, retention policies, and privacy-by-design considerations.
- Experience working closely with product, engineering, and analytics teams in a modern technology environment.
- A track record of designing or improving data ecosystems within growing or complex organisations.
You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of technologies, including GCP, Kubernetes (GKE), Kafka, Elasticsearch, Oracle, Couchbase and Apigee, so previous experience in any of these is welcome.
