Wales Press Officer
Role Summary
Reform UK is seeking a proactive and politically aligned Press Officer to lead our media and communications work across Wales. You will play a critical role in shaping and delivering Reform UK’s message to the Welsh public, helping to communicate our bold, common-sense policies on immigration, law and order, public services, economic growth, and the defence of British culture and values.
This is a fast-paced role for someone who is media-savvy, politically aware, and passionate about making a difference. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing national and regional coverage, crafting high-impact messaging, and ensuring a consistent and persuasive Reform UK voice across press, social media, and public channels in Wales.
Key Responsibilities
Media & Communications
- Draft, edit, and distribute high-quality press releases, media statements, and articles tailored to Welsh political and cultural contexts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors and producers across Wales and the UK.
- Handle day-to-day press enquiries, including rapid rebuttals and crisis communications where required.
- Act as a key contact for Welsh media, ensuring Reform UK spokespeople are visible, prepared and on-message.
Social Media & Digital Content
- Manage Reform UK Wales’ social media accounts, particularly X (formerly Twitter), ensuring a consistent tone of voice and compelling narrative.
- Work closely with the national digital team to produce impactful visual and video content for campaign use.
- Monitor online sentiment and engagement, using analytics to inform strategy and content development.
Campaigns & Messaging
- Collaborate with the national communications team to deliver innovative, locally-relevant media campaigns across Wales.
- Develop messaging and materials to support Reform UK policies on infrastructure, economy, immigration, education, and cultural identity in Wales.
- Support media events, press conferences, and campaign visits across Wales.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track media coverage and provide timely summaries and insights to senior staff.
- Contribute to weekly comms reports and strategic planning sessions.
- Monitor developments in Welsh politics, the Senedd, and public opinion to inform messaging and positioning.
Essential Criteria
- A strong and demonstrable commitment to the values and aims of Reform UK.
- Proven experience in a press office, journalism, or communications role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write clearly and persuasively.
- Understanding of the Welsh and UK media landscapes, with existing or emerging journalist contacts.
- Confident managing social media accounts, particularly political messaging on X.
- Comfortable working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines, and responding to fast-moving events.
- Strong understanding of Welsh political and cultural issues.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in political communications or with a political organisation.
- Knowledge of the Senedd, devolved Welsh governance, and regional public policy debates.
- Basic design, video editing or content creation skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe, CapCut) to enhance campaigns.
